Apartment Accommodations in Manhattan

The following is a list of apartment, studio and room accommodations available to the public, aside from the store-top options.

Burnam Textiles Building - Chelsea

Desc Excerpt: "This old textile factory has been haphazardly turned into individual units, one or two per floor. The large, high-ceilinged spaces have had little actual work done to convert them into true living spaces, but few of the tenants here complain, since the rent is relatively cheap."
Notes: The first floor is primarily small, shady-looking businesses while some residential spaces can be found on higher floors.
Price Range: Low-end affordable
Cleanliness: Questionable, but due to the low price and general tenant base, little is complained about.

Camelot Apartments - Morningside Heights

Desc Excerpt: "Residents and visitors are immediately greeted by double glass doors which lead into a mini-foyer. It is here where the buzzer panel can be found. Names are listed by apartment first, then last name only. Many 'Smith' families are listed, indicated a desire not to have a name on the board. A second set of double glass doors lie just beyond the panel, keeping out anyone without keys. Beyond the second set of doors lies the lobby where a navy blue runner leads from the doors to the elevators."
Price Range: Mid- to high-end pricing.
Cleanliness: Very well-kept, clean and up-to-date.

El Manzano Apts - El Barrio

Desc Excerpt: "It's been a long time since this building was shiny and new, but it serves to make it better fit in with the neighborhood. A grungy red industrial carpet covers the floor, stained in more than a few places with grease and various other things. Along one white-washed cinderblock wall, there are a few rows of dull grey mailboxes, identified only by room number. A directory on the wall has certainly seen better days as well, the stippled board missing more than a few letters, and the glass door having a running crack through the majority of its length."
Price Range: Low-end affordable
Cleanliness: Some attempt to keep the building running and somewhat clean is made, though it's a far, far cry from the Ritz. It's not the slummiest building in the neighbourhood...

Hilton Hotel - Times Square

Desc Excerpt: "The New York Hilton is a tremendous building, cavernous, in fact. Down below are entrances to the subways, while outside, traffic whizzes by, taking people to and fro, including regular airport service. Inside, the temperature is kept to a steady 72.5 degrees year-round, the floor tiles slate grey and blue with pink accents. The walls are papered with textured heather, the high ceiling holding a glittering crystal chandelier."
Notes: This is a hotel and not intended for permanent residence but some exceptions may be made depending upon circumstances.
Price Range: High-end; expensive.
Cleanliness: Superb and without a spec of dust anywhere. The staff pride themselves on crisp white linens, wrinkle-free fluffy towels and floors you could dine off of.

The Manchester - Upper East Side

Desc Excerpt: ""Hoity toity" doesn't even begin to describe the masterpiece known as The Manchester building. Opulent and grand, the foyer opens up widely, broken up only by large columns of white marble and a few luxurious benches scattered about, upholstered in sturdy leather studded into the wood. A dark green carpet leads from the double glass doors at the front right back to the elevators."
Price Range: High-class; expensive.
Cleanliness: One word: impeccable.

Oasis Motel - Brooklyn

Desc Excerpt: "The one storey, pink stucco building wraps around in a U-shape, parking in front of each unit which is accessed up a run of three stairs. The office is at the head of the U, while a now-defunct family restaurant occupies the other end. Identical and equally-spaced doors look into the middle of the U, while dirty plate glass windows between each offer a view of the cars of the occupants and the cracked pavement upon which they're parked."
Notes: This is a motel and not intended for permanent accommodations, though some exceptions may be made, depending on the circumstances.
Price Range: Dirt cheap rooms.
Cleanliness: For a sleazy motel, it's not too bad. While it might look run-down, there is a cleaning staff, though their work is likely 'half-assed' at best, the attempt is made, lest the inspectors shut it down completely.

Queenslace Apartments - Queens

Desc Excerpt: "Upon stepping onto the small landing, your feet find a faded, speckled grey indoor/outdoor carpet under them. Plain walls of dingy whitewashed cinderblock rise up, obscured at intervals by fake palms and flowers in chipped terra cotta pots. Just inside the shelter of the ceiling, a board announces the residents in white letters stippled on holey black. Opposite, a grouping of beat-up dull grey metal boxes set into the wall provide receptacles for post, marked with room numbers and occasionally with stickers announcing the resident's name."
Price Range: Low- to mid-range. More affordable than high-end places, but slightly more pricey than slums.
Cleanliness: Despite the building seeming a little tired and well-used, it's mostly taken care of and kept clean.
