Barbara was born mostly blind in Albany, New York to a mostly well to do family. She was raised an atheist and always showed good skill at math and science. Though her family paid for constant medical treatment her eyesight would not go above fuzzy and she would often feel ostracized from her peers due to this but when she hit puberty she found her eyesight began to quickly and inexplicably improve. Her vision had gotten up to 20/20 when her mother and father fought causing her mother to leave them and return to Japan. Her eyes kept improving however and it soon began to wreck havoc with her life, causing headaches and giving her what appeared to be the symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, even if the disorder didn’t work the same as it would for normals. Her father figured out what she was and tried to hide it from others to protect his daughter, doing his best to increase her standard of living until he heard about the school and decided to send her there.

Barbs is passionate where it concerns electronics and computers and also science but she can be a bit cold in day to day life due to her inexperience with people and the mental side-effects of her powers.

Powers

Barbara’s eyes are physically different in such a way that they are actually able to tell much more detail then a normal eye ever could. She usually wears glasses to blur her vision since seeing unhindered for so long gives her a headache. Her sight is basically an enhanced version of human sight which means while she cannot see infrared or in the dark, she is capable of reading a book from across a football field and spotting grain of sugar on the ground in front of her. When she is not wearing her glasses she also has no peripheral vision essentially, meaning that she cannot ignore details on what would be the edge of a normal person’s vision. She is also good at detecting shape shifters and illusion since she can catch small off details in their disguises that they often will not think to use.

Barbara can also, with focus and a good deal of discomfort, link up her eyes and her arm functions in such a way that she can do one thing a day with perfect aim. Either throw a punch or an item which will almost always hit the main target unless blocked or deflected. She can force herself to do this more then once a day but after the second she would be put into incapacitating pain and more then 5 times a day would be fatal. Given time she can train herself to use her skill with more frequency and even more accuracy.

Storyline

Barbs has slowly managed to acclimate herself to life at Xavier’s Academy and is learning how to socialize herself. She has been learning how to fit in with people and tone down her bluntness and has even gotten to the point where she is eating regularly now. Also, Barbs has recently come out to her friends as a lesbian, something she has been figuring out about herself for some time. She has stated an interest in working at the new mutant hospital once she gets out of school. She was Present at the opening of the Dark Gift but wasn’t able to participate much in the Chaos that occurred because the club environment sent her into a powers induced Fit of sensory deprivation. She did get to see her first mauled body up close which has been a source for nagging morbid curiosity since then. She has been good friends with Wesley and to her great confusion, has developed feelings for him. They are currently dating though she has no idea how it will turn out. Due to Wes and several of her other friends she has been loosening up and enjoying things such as fictional Sci-fi, comics, movies and even literature , which she previously did not understand as much.

Friends and Enemies

• Affy? : Barb’s computer. Or at least the name she gave it. Affy is a heavily modified Area 51 laptop which barbs considers like a pet.
• Amy ; A squad mate and prospective friend. Barb can connect due to her intellectualism and feelings of isolation.
• Basset : One of the few teachers that actually intimidates Barb though she can’t really understand why.
• Bernie : One of the first people she met while here. They have had little communication since then.
• Betsy: Barb feels awkward about being around the first girl she had feelings for since she later chose Damia over her. Still she would like to get to know her again now that barbs is more confident in her identity.
• Caitlin : She met her while she was hanging around Damia and though she feels awkward around her because of that, Barbs has grown very fond of the mute artist though she hasn’t been able to figure out the whole art thing. She views her as a mentor of sorts.
• Felix? : She hasn’t seen much of Felix lately but still has some fondness of the large cat though she worries about his increasingly feral behavior.
• Jean? : Barbs respects this teacher and has offered to help Ms. Grey with her computer a few times.
• Jill : Though at first her interest in Jill was due to curiosity she has found herself very fond of the blue one. Barbs has invited her to lunch after a recent misunderstanding regarding clothing and Jill.
• Kurt ; One of the adults attached to her squad. She has gotten to the point where she can look at him without flinching and wants to learn fencing from him.
• Nikki : Another person she has recently meant though Barbs finds Nikki can occasionally be a bit judgmental which makes her uncomfortable.
• Rahne ; The first girl barbs has really ever crushed on. Though she still has some lingering attraction she has grown happy for her and Ralph and is very protective of her.
• Ralph ; Barbs has immense respect for Ralph due to his mind and his kidness even if he can frustrate her from time to time. She is quite happy for his relationship with Rahne.
• Tamesis : Barbs is simultaneously attracted and repulsed by the bold but beautiful plant girl, one of the few who fully meets her standards. Though she is loathe to admit it, a lot of her curiosity and attraction stems from her scientific wishes to find out more about the girls mutation.
• Laura : Barbs defiantly finds her physically attractive but is a little confused by the girls complete anti-social nature. Though barbs started out with similar social skills she can’t understand why Laura is not trying to adapt.
• Wesley ; Wow… Wes started off as a close friend and advisor. Then he got her into comics and Sci-Fi and Role-playing games. Barbs has been developing feelings for him and though filled with doubt is trying to date him .She is worried about what happens when her physical aversion to men overcomes her immense mental attraction to him. All in all though she is determined to keep him as her best friend no matter what.
