Biography.

  • Full Name: Clarice Ferguson.
  • Codename: Blink.

Clarice Ferguson was born June 30th, 1993, in Cartusia, Bahamas, while Nelson and Leigh Ferguson were on vacation. Her home would be the suburban beauty of Roland Park, Baltimore, Maryland. The area was one of quiet, unassuming homes of the white and well-to-do. Her parents were the type to wear cordeyors and cardigans, with dreams of enrolling their firstborn in private school. They weren't nouveau riche, but old money. Funds that were all put aside for taxes and college tuition, supported on a regular basis by their paychecks, not their inheritance. With a small place not far from Loyola College, the Fergusons were more than thrilled to find themselves with a newborn daughter. But Roland Park was no place for a mutant, especially not a pink-skinned one. It was hard to deny that the baby girl was x-gene positive, with her warm bubblegum hue and those green eyes. Greens that glowed an eerie jade, with no visible iris or pupil. As she grew older, Clarice's tresses and curls proved to be a muted lavender, too, certainly not a normal color. And one couldn't ignore those delicated, pointed ears. So the Fergusons did the only thing they could bear doing. Rather than put the child up for adoption or abandon the mutant newborn, they drew Clarice Ferguson into a childhood of seclusion and isolation. And such was the elaborate lie to their friends - the tragedy of a stillborn, the constant stream of excuses not to entertain at their place on Westwood. Homeschooled, Clarice proved to be every inch the shy and reclusive wallflower. With no friends, she failed where the social scene was concerned. Fortunately, she had thus far showed no signs of a dangerous or unstable mutation.

Hoping to slip off the suburban radar and encourage their daughter to socialize, the Fergusons moved to Miami, Florida, when she was only twelve. It was in this year that all else changed. Her parents were not prepared for Floridian weather. A storm swept up out of nowhere one night, as the Fergusons were on their way to treat Clarice to the wonders of Disneyworld. The flash flood spun the car, tossing it into oncoming traffic. Nelson and Leigh were killed on impact, and Clarice certaintly would have been. But Clarice's second mutation saved her life. She accidentally teleported out of the car, tumbling to safety. Visibly shaken when her parents refused to wake up, and frightened of the implications of being found - an obvious mutant - at the scene of the accident, Clarice fled.

The life of a mutant runaway, particularly a young adolescent one, is not an easy one. Unfamiliar with the streets of Florida, Clarice relied on her fundamental knowledge of United States geography to forge north. She sought to return to Maryland, desperate to find something familiar to cling to without her parents. It was not easy surviving the South. Not only was it difficult to hide that she was pink with glowing eyes and pointed ears, but she was on the verge of turning thirteen - and female, to boot. Persecution remained the dominant danger as she forged her path north to Virginia, though. By avoiding the major towns, and teleporting away from suspicious men and women alike, she managed to survive by her wits for an entire year before crossing the border into Maryland. When you can teleport, it's not hard at all to steal from the grocery or department store. And it was even easier to sink into the role of street urchin, when she finally stumbled across Baltimore on her fourteenth birthday. But she was far from the suburban comfort she remembered. The inner city presented all new dangers for the quiet and naive Clarice. Now it was not only dangerous to be a mutant, but to be a teenage girl.

Clarice did not escape the day-to-day grind of a homeless streetrat in Baltimore without scars. The greatest of these would be her altercation with the man known as Daddy Zebra. With her back up against the wall, no amount of teleporting could keep Clarice ahead of Zebra. It was only a matter of time before she was talked into providing favors for the self-proclaimed pimp, in exchange for safe harbor. Not that she was well-fed. Kept rail-thin to perserve the appearance of a pink-skinned Lolita, she was given the petname 'Blinkie' and put to work. She was tattooed, the facial markings a darker pink - and a testimony, even today, of her service to Daddy Zebra. Further details of her servitude are unnecessary here, revealed now only to the closest of friends. Suffice it to say, when a voice belonging to one Charles Xavier spoke to her of freedom from such a tortured career, a then sixteen-year-old Clarice leaped at the opportunity. It so happened that Xavier had stumbled across the teenage suburbanite-turned-streetwalker with the aid of Cerebro. Immediately taking to teleporting north again, she managed to escape the reaches of Daddy Zebra and stumbled into Westchester, New York.

Here, she began schooling anew with Xavier funding her education. Clarice was more than grateful for the opportunity, she took to classes immediately. Her first few months at school, she retained that introverted character. But steadily throughout her first year, Clarice blossomed - but not into an entirely sweet sixteen-year-old. Somewhat rough around the edges, Clarice proved that she could be bratty at times, often spontaneous and difficult. But she remained keen on her classes. Now seventeen and finishing her second year of schooling, Clarice Ferguson remains a character worth knowing - she's certainly, at the least, been through a lot. Most recently, though? She's run away from Xavier's, back to the streets where she feels more at home. Stay tuned for details!

Powers.

Personal Teleportation:

A teleporter, Blink's effective range one day could be as far as the moon and back. This is the truth of her mutation, Blink being an exceptional teleporter whose power relies on the unconscious and the imagined rather than an alternate dimension. This differs from a 'porter who might be taxed and limited with every jump through a fiery pseudo-hell dimension. She opens portals, that can transport herself, others, or both. She does not need specific knowledge of the intended location, pre-jaunt. There are limitations, of course. At present age and development, Blink can only teleport a distance of maybe two miles at a time. She can link a good three or four jaunts of this distance together, before she feels exhausted. Her teleporting is kinetic, though, and it will grow - but suffice it to say, this will not be a concern until she is in her twenties. So consider her range fixed, at this point. She could 'port two other persons of relative average proportions, at this time. Though only one or two jaunts would exhaust her, with this added burden. Blink usually just uses her 'porting to escape from immediate danger, 'porting only twenty feet at a time, at most. It is more of an instinct, and she rarely has conscious control of the destination - a fact that will include OOC notation that this power won't be abused to appear in secret locations. She 'ports out of danger, not into it. With added concentration, she has recently begun to determine where she will end up - but only if she's been there, or seen it before. That is, consider this. She could not 'port and end up in Boston, but if she's been there, she could attempt to jaunt there at the risk of incredible exhaustion. But, alternatively, she could try a series of 'ports in that vague direction, and chances are she would wind up in Boston eventually. Particularly if she were being chased, and Boston was safe.

Charged Projectiles:

Blink can also charge objects to use as projectiles, which teleport their target to a consciously determined location. At present, and this can be considered a binding promise, those objects are generally small enough to be handheld - anything from a dart to a baseball bat. Nothing so extreme as an entire motorcycle or building. Just things that can be thrown, with the strength of a girl of seventeen. Even a brick would be somewhat difficult for Blink to use as a charged projectile. As far as avoiding it, there is always the chance of dodging it - or Blink missing completely. An understanding of twinking comes with such a power - OOC permissions will be secured before any teleporting of anyone occurs. At present, she can not use these 'porting projectiles to sever certain limbs from a target - if the strike succeeds, it teleports the entire victim, whole and uninjured.

Enhanced Physique:

She is also gifted with extraordinary agility, dexterity, and reflexes. This enables her to perform as the acrobat she seems to be - a narrow ledge is walked with ease, a dropped pencil caught deftly. Her body just seems to respond a touch faster than most, allowing her to land in crouch when the average might have fallen on their ass. In addition, to a very minimal extent, Blink's visual and auditory senses are enhanced, just above normal standards.

Advanced Regeneration:

And like most mutants, Blink's regenerative capabilities are slightly more advanced than those of an average human. To explain this further, it isn't as if she heals before your eyes. Rather, a broken arm might take half the time it takes for a human to heal - she would be out of the hospital sooner than someone else receiving the same injuries from a fight or accident. It isn't so much an active healing factor as a pre-existing resistance to injury. She'll take a punch that would knock a normal human down, and keep fighting. She's not invulnerable, just resilient. As far as the regenerative element goes, any and all injuries excepting undeniably fatal ones take half the time to heal as they would for a normal human. So while she a cruel blow to the spine might not paralyze Blink as it would a normal human, a spear straight through the heart would certainly send her to Heaven. A punch that would crack a normal jaw or break a rib might not on its first attempt, but two or three to the same point would crack jaw or break rib. So it's not that she can't be broken or knocked out, she's just usually saved from the first blow. The second, third, maybe fourth punch would be as detrimental to Blink as it would be to the others.

Unique Appearance:

It should also be noted that she has certain physical mutations. That being her color palette. Her flesh is a warm, bubblegum pink. Her tresses are a deeper lavender. Her eyes are a solid, glowing green - pale and grassy in color, no visible irises or pupils. Her ears are also pointy.
