Biography.
- Full Name: David North, formerly Christoph Nord.
- Codename: Agent Zero, formerly Maverick.
The man now known as David North was born Christoph Nord in the area of East Germany, more specifically Saxony. Although public records of the Nord family have long since been accidentally 'destroyed' sometime during the union of West and East Germany, it is popular belief that the Nords were always Nazi sympathizers. In fact, rumor was that Christoph's grandparents were both scientists on the Nazi bankroll. And there is certainly some indication that Christoph's parents, Hans and Deirdre, retained such sympathies and philosophies, financing certain Neo-Nazi movements and organizations under the table. But whether or not this is true, not even Christoph can never know for sure. For while Christoph's older brother, Andreas Nord, was always a vocal antisemite, Christoph preferred the quieter route, as a child. Described as pensive and thoroughly introspective, Christoph rarely raised a fuss. He certainly voiced no radical opinions, one way or another. So there was no reason for Christoph's parents to suspect any treachery or deception. Rather, Christoph proved to be a model son - and quite the athlete. Somehow, Christoph excelled in just about every sport, growing up. But the boy was born to be a wrestler. No matter how hard Christoph was pushed, no matter what back-breaking hold the boy was put into, Christoph always came out on top. He seemed to thrive off rigorous exercise, enduring whatever the opponent threw his way - in fact, Christoph seemed to grow stronger, the longer a match continued. His parents never suspected a thing, proud of their championship-winning son. Not even when Christoph survived a particularly brutal crash, one that sent the seventeen-year-old boy over a thirty-five foot cliff, did Hans or Deirdre suspect their youngest son might be a mutant. But that didn't stop the German government from stepping in.
It wasn't men in suits that approached Christoph, though. No, Berlin recruited Christoph in the most innocent of manners: the standard military. Since Christoph was well-known to the local media as a champion wrestler, akin to an 'All-State Champion' in the USA, it wasn't suspicious at all when the army approached Christoph upon graduation. Of course, Christoph accepted the offer, a voluntary recruit to the Bundeswehr. There, in what is more commonly referred to as the Federal Defence Forces (FDF), Christoph excelled in the training. He was, in fact, being monitored. And eighteen months later, Christoph was approached by the Brandenburgers, who were thought to be defunct after WWII. As it turns out, the Brandenburgers continued practice after the fall of the Third Reich - as have many special operations units, in just about every country. It was the Brandenburgers who exposed Christoph as a mutant, who explained the concept and implications to a then-uninformed Christoph. Offering to further train the young man in the use and application of his powers, the Brandenburgers placed Christoph in a German black-ops unit known as Cell Six.
Thus began Christoph Nord's career as, essentially, an assassin for the German government. No, the government never experimented on or enhanced Christoph's powers. But it did supplement the soldier's training, further advancing Christoph's understanding and skill with hand-to-hand combat, armed combat, and assassination. He was given the codename, Maverick. Indeed, Christoph rose amongst the ranks of German employees, in part thanks to his ability to absorb kinetic energy. As well as a curious side-mutation, one that insured Christoph was completely scent-less. Stealth tactics, computer and bomb operation, disguise, and interrogation all became second nature to the promising agent. But Christoph Nord stumbled in Italy. There, on a mission, Christoph was taken out of the picture by a rival assassin, codename unrevealed. Christoph wound up recovering in a remote hospital, where the German operative met Ginetta Lucia Barsalini - a Russian nurse. The two fell in love and promptly married, once Christoph recovered completely. He returned to service, though Christoph made the mistake of failing to keep the lovely Ginetta out of the loop in all things related to Cell Six. One by one, over the next three years, field agents in Cell Six were taken out - all except Nord. There was no way to deny the truth: Ginetta was a spy. Christoph confronted his wife. And in the argument that followed, Ginetta lunged at Christoph with a knife. In self-defense, Christoph was forced to shoot and mortally wound Ginetta. And only then, as she was dying, did Christoph learn she was with child.
Betrayed and wracked with guilt upon murdering both wife and unborn child, Christoph Nord was through. At great risk, Christoph defected to the States. He sought amnesty with the United States government in return for exposing certain German secrets and names. Under the new name David North, the all-star German operative was no more. But unfortunately, despite valiant efforts to the contrary, David couldn't give up the trade. Maybe it was the guilt, maybe it was the pain, maybe it was just because violence and assassination was all David knew. But David continued to barter his talents as an underground operative, trained by the German government and enhanced with mutant powers. In certain circles, where discretion is everything, David Nord rose in influence and prestige - under the new pseudonym, Agent Zero. A veritable mercenary, David criss-crossed the nation, wherever there was need or want for his abilities. And successful, David was. Enough to finance a private arsenal, as well as several safehouses across the United States. But again, David was bound to stumble up. On the job, one that should have been simple and easy, David ran across another assassin: Andreas Nord, German operative sent to eliminate the defector. David should have suspected a set-up from the beginning. In the end, David again came out on top - at the cost of his own brother's life, much to David's horror.
And so we find the present-day David North. A man forced to kill his wife, his unborn child, and now his older brother. A man trained by his home country, but now never to return. On the run from Germany, doing his damn best to stay hidden in the streets of New York City. A professional killer by trade, by now all the more disillusioned and uncertain. Wary of governments, and even more wary of women. Slow to make friends, but even slower to cause trouble. David North wants northing more, currently, than to lay low, to blend in, to create a fresh identity free of the past. For now, working security at the local bank is enough to pay the bills. But there's always that itch, to get back in the field - to put a knife to someone's throat, or a bullet through someone's heart. The pay's better, but at what cost to David's humanity? Only time will tell.
Powers.
Kinetic Absorption:
Agent Zero is capable of absorbing but not releasing kinetic energy generated by impact, with no discernible negative repercussions. This ability allows Zero to survive falls and blows that would kill an ordinary man. At present stage in evolution, Zero can conceivably endure an entire physical struggle - we're talking the average length here of a barbrawl or dispute, say five to ten minutes - without showing signs of wear or exertion. Thus, a fistfight or brawl is a poor approach to subduing or defeating Zero. Zero seems capable of resisting certain types of energy, as well - such as concussive, since it is a kinetic force. But Zero is, indeed, vulnerable to other forms of offensive energy - fire, lightning, psychic. It is only physical harm from kinetic energy that Zero is near-immune to. As far as survival goes, Zero can indeed drop from a height of four or five stories without breaking a bone.
Where does this absorbed energy go, then? Well, one day, Zero might be able to harness said energy into concussive blasts - release energy that is absorbed, in a 1:1 ratio. But for now, the energy is merely converted by the body into what can best be described as vitality. Zero's overall athleticism is enhanced thanks to his body's ability to absorb and convert kinetic energy - strength, endurance, stamina, speed, and dexterity are all enhanced, but not to super-human levels. No, imagine Zero at peak conditions for a human athlete, something akin to an Olympian. His hand-to-eye coordination is also augmented, boosted. And on a base level, Zero possesses a bolstered ability to recover from injury and resist aging. Essentially, Zero ages at a moderately slower rate - looking and behaving like a man of thirty, when actually closer to forty. He also recovers from mild to moderate wounds at an inverse rate of the same moderation - bouncing back from illness and injury in slightly less time than it would take an average peer.
When Zero is not exposed to kinetic energy, these modifications subside naturally. His body essentially racks up a store of energy, then boosts Zero's physical abilities with said energy. But when that energy is used up, Zero's physical abilities return to normal. So, for instance, Zero might enter a fistfight or brawl with the normal advantages of a well-trained operative. But for every punch received, Zero not only feels no physical pain - but grows stronger, as a result. So the longer a fight goes, the tougher Zero gets. And on the run, particularly if leaping over obstacles or between buildings, Zero gets more and more capable of such strenuous exercise, rather than less and less.
It should be noted that Zero's ability does not work like a force field against other means of physical assault - such as knives, bullets, or explosions. Of course, it is important to reiterate that Zero's abilities do not push Zero into super-human levels. Increased strength, for example, enables Zero to throw harder punches, jump farther, and run longer as the fight goes on. It's as if attacking Zero physically actually makes Zero a more difficult opponent. Currently, though, there is a general peak to how much Zero can absorb - at Olympian levels, all modified enhancements level off. This is likely due to the give and take nature of Zero's power. For every notch in added strength, Zero expels that same energy in an enhanced punch or some other feat of uncanny endurance. Presumably, Zero has never been forced to continually take and not give back.
No Scent:
This is but a minor, if not incredibly curious, side-mutation. Agent Zero was born without a natural scent. Of course, this is rarely an issue with unsuspecting humans, for rarely do humans recognize someone else's natural musk or body odor. But for mutants blessed with enhanced senses, it is worth noting that Zero emits no discernible odor. Obviously a mystery, but not even Zero's perspiration smells. He is completely impossible to track by scent, not even with the use of animals, unless perfumed or otherwise reeking of outside influences - say, cigarette smoke or manure.

Wanted.
This is entirely up in the air, at the moment! David wants nothing more than to lay low, blend in. So enemies are admittedly the last thing on his list of desires - but then again, friends don't rank high as far priorities, either. Hm.
