Doug

(Inactive Character)

Doug is run by rogue and is a new member of X-Factor.

Biography

  • Full Name: Douglas Ramsey
  • Age: 17
  • Birthday: May 13, 1993
  • Codename: Cypher
  • Family: Phillip Ramsey, father; Sheila Ramsey, mother (deceased)

Doug's mother was killed in a mugging gone awry when he was only six, but otherwise, he has lived a fairly average life for an upper-middle class kid growing up in Manhattan. A bit of a geek, he never really stood out much at school, unremarkable enough to dodge even the bullies on a good day. However, his life as the Invisible Man would come to a crashing end when he decided to step forward as a public mutant and put his unique talents to work at the UN.

Doug also has an online persona, Cypher, who is known in small circles for being a rather outspoken pro-mutant activist online. He ran an anonymous forum for mutants for several years, but has since handed it off to someone else to run. Still, Cypher is still a well-known presence within a small group of mutant-related sites.

Doug has not told anyone that he is Cypher. As far as anyone knows so far, there's no link between the two.

Powers

Doug can read, write, speak and understand any language, human, computer, or otherwise. This works on an intuitive level, not a learned one, so even he isn't entirely aware of how he arrives at a final translation.

Storyline

Doug gave a closed press conference at the UN to announce this bold new decision. What happens next remains to be seen.

While lost on his first day at the UN, he ran into Sylvia and got into a conversation about mutants and politics about as winding as the way to the exit. A few days later, while at the 7-11, he ran into Logan? and the two came to a concensus that Doug's plan of being a public mutant could either be stupid or brave (or possibly both).

Just as he'd begun settling in at the UN, some mysterious technical difficulties wound up shutting down the assembly for the day. Doug ran into Topaz in the lobby who was apparently planning on going on a tour of the place. Instead, the two went out for lunch at a nearby deli.

A few days later, on his way home from work, he stopped into Zabar's for a coffee and wound up getting held up at gunpoint by a group of obvious mutants calling themselves the Morlocks. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the MCU managed to screw up the capture. It has gotten Doug thinking about the plight of less fortunate mutants, however, and wanting to do something to help them out.

So when Topaz approached asking him to be the public face of her good works project, he was happy to agree. Still, he's considering doing something else himself on the side, or that could tie in with this project. Right now, a mutant-friendly soup kitchen and shelter is still a dream, but he's becoming more determined with each passing day.

With the MRA gaining momentum, Doug's found himself more and more often the subject of bullying at school, though he tries not to admit it or complain about it. He's grateful that his job at the UN keeps him away from school part-time, but the times he is there are becoming unbearable.

Most recently, he's agreed to register himself with the MRA and join the ranks of X-Factor, likely as a non-combative at first. He likes the idea of a force to help innocent mutants and handle those who give the rest of mutant-kind a bad name.

Friends and Enemies

  • Sylvia - Doug ran into her when trying to escape the labyrinthine corridors of the UN on his first day. Though they didn't necessarily see eye-to-eye, Doug found her surprisingly reasonable and easy to talk to.
  • Logan? - After running into Logan at the 7-11 one night, Doug found himself rather impressed with his grit and take no crap attitude (to keep this family friendly).
  • Topaz - Doug ran into her in the lobby when the UN was subject to some inexplicable technical difficulties. They went out for lunch. Some flirting ensued, but it's quite possible Topaz was just messing with him. Oddly, Doug doesn't entirely mind.
  • Scott - Scott quickly impressed Doug when the two had a chat, and Doug was pretty quickly convinced about the MRA. When Scott offered him a job with X-Factor, Doug didn't hesitate to accept.

Wanted

Doug was born and raised in NYC and his father is a professor at Columbia, so if you want any background links with him, that would be much fun. Otherwise, just looking for RP and fun stories at this point!

After his run in with the Morlocks and their very good point of how obvious mutants might not be privy to the same social safety net as others, Doug's beginning to think a pro-mutant charity might be in order. Food bank, clothing drive, even monetary donations - all to go to those who might not be able to get help through more conventional means. Anyone who's interested in helping out with this, I'd love to bring you on board. @mail me on the game or drop a comment here and we'll work something out.

I'd also really love people who know Doug from the news and either agree with him or don't (it's okay to think he's being a stupid kid! Or to think he's gone traitor for aligning himself with the MRA - I enjoy some good enemies too).
