'Jono'
Jono is a member of the Independents.
Biography
- Full Name: Jonothon Evan Starsmore
- Age: 25
- Codename: Chamber
- Family: Unknown
- Nationality: British
- Unofficial Nicknames: Oscar (as in 'The Grouch')
Recently arrived in New York City, Jono appears to be a bit of a drifter or a vagabond, playing his guitar for anyone who is willing to stop and listen.
Powers
At some point in the last few years, Jono's powers manifested in a rather explosive and dramatic fashion, nearly killing him. By all rights, the blast should have killed him. But somehow, the boyo managed to survive it, despite the incident robbing him of most of his major organs, the front part of his torso and the lower portion of his jaw.
For all intents and purposes, Jono is a walking furnace of psionic fire. His chest cavity houses this energy and unless he covers himself up, the flames lick out beyond the confines of their 'chamber'. This energy can be used to deliver concussive blasts of varying potency, either just to knock someone over or to shatter glass, splinter wood, and so on. The flames themselves do give off heat, but only a few inches beyond his body. The farther away they get, the less heat they have. He can control this and drop them down to a null temperature, but the furnace within him is always searing hot and would deliver very serious burns in mere seconds.
His vocal chords no longer exist, so he has managed to use his psionic abilities to develop a sort of psionic 'speech', projecting his thoughts into the heads of those around him using limited telepathy. He cannot read people's minds or emotions, however; he is a one-way radio of sorts.

Event Involvement
- Under The Knife - Involved in the near-riot outside of Frost Enterprises, when he tried to pull Emma away from the angry crowd, only to find himself literaly stuck between a rock and a hard place. His own 'secret identity', however, still remains safe for the time being.
Storyline
At some point in the last few years, Jono's powers manifested in a rather explosive manner, relieving him of major organs such as lungs, heart, digestive tract, etc., as well as his lower jaw, vocal chords and his ribcage. It leaves him as a bit of a frightening sight, so he has managed to find a way to cover himself and his 'affliction' hidden from plain view. As a result, he often claims he is a burn victim -- which isn't so far from the truth, is it?
Jono's past is something he generally doesn't talk about but he makes it quite obvious that something rather traumatic occurred back then, besides the nearly lethal manifestation of his powers. He has recently come from somewhere in England, judging by his accent, and seems content just to play his guitar in pubs and parks to make his way.
More recently, Jono has just resurfaced after being kidnapped, held against his will and apparently tortured. He's in the process of trying to heal from that as well as remember as much information to provide to Officer Norton beneath Penny's watchful eye. He came back raving and beside himself, going on about 'The Light people'...
Contacts
Still a little too new to NYC, Jono doesn't have many contacts just yet.
- Penny - Having only recently met Penny, Jono doesn't have too many friends at this point, but what he does have is a strange, rather unconventional one with Penny. They obviously have differing views about the 'mutant problem' and don't see eye to eye on this. But Jono calls it like he sees it and told her to back off, that she's barking up the wrong tree -- so far, she's respecting his wishes. She invaded his personal space, causing him to react rather poorly. His explanation was that he is a burn victim and gets antsy when people try to touch him. He has revealed to Penny that he is a mutant and even finally broke down and pulled down the bandages for her -- and surprisingly enough, she didn't scream or call the MCU. More recently, he revealed a bit more of his disturbing past, which she didn't take as well as he had hoped. One thing lead to another and Jono was left to storm out of her apartment, angry and hurt. The pair have since patched things up and then some, considering somehow they have managed to end up dating -- secretly, lest either 'side' of the human/mutant divide cause them any trouble.
- Caitlin - Fellow artists met in Washington Square Park while Jono was busking. The pair chatted, him in his way and she in hers with paper and pen. The talk of scars came up, but Jono was reluctant to reveal his. Since then, their paths have not crossed again.
- Cassandra? - Sit in a park long enough and you never know who you might meet. Cassandra stopped to compliment him on his guitar work and this lead to her sitting to chat, as so many seem to do. Before long, a crazed police officer looking for "The Light" came their way after accosting a few people in the area. After helping Cass escape the insane cop, Jono managed to get caught up in another altercation that involved, this time, an unconscious Cassandra. Interesting track record. As a result, he publicly displayed his mutation and put it to what he thought was good use trying to protect her, his girlfriend and a rather gruff police officer. If nothing else, their times together have been... interesting.
- Emma - What is it meeting people in that damned park? Emma also stopped like so many others to listen to his music with appreciation. It didn't take long for Jono to figure out that she was "that Frost gel from the telly" and for him to reassure her that he was no threat due to her mutation; they had something in common. Figuring out that they were both telepaths of varying degrees, they explored this on their first meeting but used it more on the second when Jono inadvertantly stepped into a protest right in front of Frost Enterprises. He also inadvertantly somehow got himself stuck between an angry mob and Emma, while she pounded on the front doors of her father's building. He managed to cause a diversion long enough for her to slip away at least, then slipped away himself as the law arrived to break things up.
- Norton - Jono hasn't actually been formally introduced but Officer Norton was present when Jono publicly used his mutation to protect Cassandra and Penny. After being called "Flame Gut" by the officer, the boyo isn't exactly too fond of him and has questioned Penny's apparent friendship with the man. The pair have not crossed paths since, but that's not to say they won't ever meet again.
- Varity? - They met by chance after she tossed a small donation into his guitar case out of appreciation for his talent. He thinks she's a good kid in that bright-eyed, optimistic view of the world sort of way; and he admires that about her. He found out that she's going to one of those private schools and reassured her that it likely means she'll get farther in life and meet her goals and dreams, to stick with it.
Wanted
Someone to play Jono's best bud in the comics: Angelo (aka Skin)! Any male friends would no doubt do the boyo some good. ;)
