Quick OOC Notes
Warning: ** GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING **
Due to the nature of Marrow's mutation, she is a walking nightmare. If you have issues with gore, harsh language or violence, please warn me in advance so that I may adjust my poses accordingly. She is blunt, slightly unhinged and volatile in nature. I will do my best to warn if continued IC behaviour will provoke her to violent ends.
Scenes:
Scenes: Marrow does not hang around idly in the city due to her mutation. If she is in the city, she sticks to alleys during night-time hours. If you wish to have a scene with me, please feel free to request this, but be aware that there are obvious restrictions as to where she can be, when she can be there, etc. If I turn you down, please don't take it personally. I also prefer smaller one-on-one scenes. Anything larger than three people in a public scene will make Marrow back off and find a way to split.
Short Background
Little is actually known about Marrow's past, aside from the fact that she left home at some point at the age of 13 or 14 due to a breakdown between herself and her mother regarding her 'mutation problem'. Details are not known about this situation beyond that. Only one person that she knows right now even knows her real name. She spent the following few years on the streets of Manhattan, skulking in dark alleyways and abandoned buildings scrounging for her next meal (and often resorting to eating rats, as hand-outs were not always forthcoming to the scary-looking mutant).
Those who know her personally understand that she is full of quirks, has a lot of issues and is 'broken in the head', as she puts it (just a little unhinged, really). Life on the streets was apparently harsh on her and has built up a gruff and tough exterior demeanor and body. Touching and trust are big issues for her, also as a result from her time on the streets.
She typically looks too thin for her height (though she is heavier than she looks), though has more muscle definition than the average eighteen year old who might work out every day. She takes pride in being in shape and is avid about working out (there have been jokes about how working out appears to be her only hobby).
Powers
This mutant is quite literally a walking nightmare. Standing at six feet tall, she's imposing enough, but add onto that the sight of a series of bones protruding from her flesh and she can be downright scary (especially when met in a dark alley). Several long protrusions jut out from her back as well as one smaller one sticking out from each elbow. Beyond these, she also has several 'plates' of bone which protect various weak-spots in the body: knees, collarbones and one shoulder are encased in these shield-like growths.
The protruding bones in her back and elbows can actually be removed and resemble knives or swords; these can and are used as weapons. At one time, they were strictly used for stabbing and slicing but recently, Marrow has shown a proficiency for throwing the smaller ones from her arms with deadly accuracy.
Beyond these obvious mutations, she also regenerates at an alarming rate, healing almost instantly from bruising or small flesh wounds and regrowing the removed bony protrusions between five and fifteen minutes. This has several other effects including (but not limited to) an immunity to illness, poisons, drugs and alcohol. The regeneration is likely linked with the excessive, accelerated bone growth, extra toughness to her bones and other redundancies in her body.
As an unfortunate side-effect of the protrusions on her back, Marrow cannot lie on her back nor sit in most chairs or on couches. She prefers to sit on floors or to perch on stools or tables, though turning a wooden chair around to sit on it backward is always an option for her. Shirts always have holes either cut or torn in them in the back and wearing a coat is difficult for her unless it's extremely oversized. As a result of her obvious and rather nightmarish mutation, she remained a social pariah cast to the extreme outskirts of society. Years of living with herself and whinos as company have left her slightly mentally instable.
Since being recruited into the Brotherhood, Marrow has found relative acceptance, something she's long hoped for, but never counted on. Her appearance seems to only shock newcomers initially and her gruff demeanor is something that her 'housemates' seemed to have gotten used to, and as a result, she is learning to blend in a little, socially. In fact, the previously misanthropic young woman has started to trust a few individuals and has proven herself to have a pretty solid head on her shoulders, despite not necessarily being the most "book-smart".
Her teammates seem to respect her opinion when she gives it -- though whether it's real respect or they simply fear her enough to give her lip service is not obvious to her. Regardless, for the first time in years, she feels as though she has a family again.
Event Involvement
- A main participant in the jailbreak plot, Marrow was instrumental in helping break Jacob Peterson out of jail with the Brotherhood. She was personally responsible for many injuries sustained by several of the police officers on duty that night in the precinct. She is still involved in guarding over the boy in shifts.
- For some strange reason, she has been collecting maps of New York. Any type of map will do, apparently. Only a select few know why.
- She was involved in attempting to locate the missing Pietro by hiring Riley to get on the speedster's scent.
- She attended the NYC Halloween Party with Zachary, apparently as his date, and battled several of the 'zombies' which attacked party goers that night.
- Not too long ago, she was asked to hide someone. As this was a failed attempt, she feels as though she didn't stand up to her end of the bargain and has offered extended protection. Recently, this offer was accepted, but it went bad and the event has left Marrow relatively shaken and doubting her own abilities.
- Motel Inferno - The Brotherhood went to meet up with another gang who wanted a partnership and got more than they bargained for. Guns were not in the original equation. Still, the BH pulled through, even if it meant getting riddled full of bullets. Marrow initially thought she took three shotgun blasts to the stomach, but it turned out it was three AK 47 shots. The first two went straight through. The third got lodged but after four or five agonizing days, her body finally ejected the foreign body and healed up nicely.
Storyline
Thankfully, at the point at which she was being hit with starvation and risked dying on the streets from malnutrition and exposure, Pietro stumbled across her and offered her a place with the Brotherhood. For one who had been so far outcast from society because of her obvious mutation, she easily bought into the Brotherhood's cause (especially after being visited by Magneto).
Since then, Marrow has become a Brotherhood Acolyte and the group's combat marshal.
She was an active participant in the jailbreak plot involving Jacob Peterson and is wanted for nearly killing one of the police officers on duty at the time, as well as her involvement in the incident. As a result, she usually lies low.
However, more recently, she has been seen skulking around the southern parts of Manhattan, getting into scraps with gangers and haunting the Boar's Head? bar. Rumours on the street suggest that Marrow is not even a mutant, but a bone demon, made of the bones of mob victims in the bottom of the bay. Variations on these rumours suggest that either the Mob controls her or that she is after the Mob, seeking retribution for the victims who went to 'swim with the fishes'. Regardless of what version is heard, the Spanish gangs whisper that Los Huesos (The Bones) is vicious, wild and not to be messed with.
Marrow has also played an active role in recruitment for the Brotherhood. Perhaps using her as a gauge as to how tough a person is can be beneficial to terrorist group -- if you can handle being around her, then you can handle just about anything. She has recruited Aero, Milo? and Ian. Of the newer recruits, Marcel has admitted to her that she is kind of his idol (much to her chagrin) and she has started forging strong friendships with Ian and Zachary out of the 'new recruits' list, on top of her existing friendships with Rogue, Pietro and Wanda.
As the group's combat marshal, she has also started training sessions of which both Aero and Zachary have taken advantage of -- one of which left their first session with a black eye.
Over time, she and Zach grew closer together until it was obvious that the rumours flying around the Brotherhood HQ about them dating were true. The pair were practically inseparable. However, Zach went awol for many months, leaving Marrow panicked and even more ornery than usual. She was often seen taking off to the city to search the sewers, alleys and abandoned buildings. She even combed the beach for hours and hours at a time. Nothing... until recently when Zach walked back in the door. The rumors say that there was a huge blow-up of some sort and now her room is trashed and Zach's sporting a black eye.
Rumours Regarding Marrow
- Word on the Streets: If your character lives or spends a lot of time on the streets of Manhattan, runs with gangs or mafia, etc., drop me a note to let me know. There are rumours on the streets about Marrow which may or may not be of interest to you.
- "Marrow has been really ornery as of late. I mean /really/ ornery.... moreso than usual! And that's pretty crazy if you ask me. When she hasn't been threatening to stab people in the hallways as she passes them, she's holed up either in the catacombs or her room. She's not talking to anyone, it seems! Wonder if it has anything to do with that zombie-guy going awol...?"
- "There was a lot of shouting and swearing coming from the foyer earlier today. Sounded real angry. It was just before Zachary was seen going into his room upstairs... I didn't even know he was back!"
- "I'm afraid to go to the end of the hall on the third floor. You know the combat marshal lives down there, right? I heard a lot of noise from there earlier. Things banging and crashing around. Sounded like someone was tearing up the joint. Buuuut she scares me so that outweighs my curiosity to check on it..."
Friends and Enemies
Friends:
- Aero - A fellow teammate who has actually participated in the new combat marshal's training sessions. Marrow's offered him some pointers and at least not roughed him up too badly.
- Attrition - One of the newer recruits, Marrow hasn't formed a full opinion of him, but he has a habit of setting her off-balance. First, he doesn't seem to be too frightened by her. Second, he keeps flirting with her. Where normally she might just walk away when in such a situation, they were stuck in beds next to each other in the sick bay while they recovered from a mission and in the end, she's agreed to have dinner and watch a movie with him -- she's still trying to figure out how all that happened.
- "Deacon" Plain - They have only met once and Marrow told "the preacher" essentially not to waste his breath trying to sermonize at her. She showed no interest in his religious angles and told him as much rather bluntly. Overall, she doesn't have anything against him, but he has yet to prove his place in the group in her eyes.
- Fred? - Known mostly to Marrow as "the new guy who might break you, Marrow", Fred has not yet met the combat marshal. She's been warned that he might be a bit too much for her to handle in training sessions in her usual manner, but she's not quite sure why. She'll find out soon enough.
- Fox - Marrow bumped into the Aussie in a random alley one day and apparently made an impression. One that was strong enough to help her enlist Fox to 'the Cause', bringing him into the Brotherhood fold. So far, she's been impressed by his proactive attitude and how quickly he seems to be involving himself in the organization.
- Grey - Perhaps Marrow sees a bit of herself in this street rat, which might be the only reason she hasn't grown tired of the continuous attitude from the girl. She finds amusement in her presence, to a point, but she tries not to feed the girl too much to have a 'tude about if she can help it. Instead, she offers her unsolicited and often gruff words of advice, one runaway to another, when she sees fit.
- Ian - If Marrow has a 'soft spot', she's likely got one for Ian. Considering he is such a visible mutant such as herself but so naive, she's grown a little protective of him, even if she feels that he's been a bit of a lovesick bonehead as of late. She's already lectured him a bit with Zachary considering his involvement with The Butterfly incidents and the risk she feels he's put people in.
- Marcel - Although these two haven't seen too much of each otheras a general rule, Marcel admitted to Marrow one day that he was her 'number one fan'. Shocked the hell out of her to say the least and it left her not sure of how to take the compliment or him, but at least he's on her team and doesn't seem too disturbed by her. More recently, she found herself at least in partial agreement with him considering Ian's recent actions.
- Mort - One of their latest recruits, "the Toad" was brought in by Marrow herself. They met by chance in an alley in Chinatown and she startled him so badly that he dropped his dinner. Despite her initial desire to run off after he started pressing her for what she was hiding beneath her over-large coat, the two finally figured out that each other was a mutant.
- Nikolai - Marrow has only heard of the Russian, but not actually crossed paths with him just yet, and only knows that he's apparently caused problems between Rogue and Pietro -- but she has not judged him on this.e MCU lead to the need for an underground army and before long, Mort "signed on".
- Pietro - Pietro has managed to earn Marrow's respect from their work together on the jailbreak of Jacob Peterson. He is also responsible for getting Marrow off the streets before she was overcome by starvation. Marrow has recently 'hired' a private investigator to help locate the wayward Pietro, hoping for the best but bracing for the worst.
- Rogue - Probably Marrow's best friend at this point in time and the one person who knows more about Marrow's past than anyone else (even her real name). The two act as each other's sounding boards more often than not on a variety of topics. They've both gotten each other out of some pretty interesting binds and often, grudgingly, talk about their personal lives to each other.
- Wanda - Still not really close to Wanda, Marrow at least respects Wanda for her part in the jailbreak as well. She proved herself to not be as frail as she seemed and to actually hold her own -- that's good enough for Marrow.
- Zachary - Marrow had been spending a lot of her spare time hanging around Zachary, whether it be to train or to watch silly zombie movies with him. He's tolerated at least one beating from her in a training session and hasn't been scared off yet. She had learned to tolerate his incessant teasing (and picking up a bit herself) and odd interests in bugs and horror movies. She also resisted the very strong urge to rip off one of his arms and beat him senseless with it after finding out that he read her sketchbook. It also appears that the two were actually some kind of freakish "item"... that is until recently when everything seemed to blow up between them. Lately, when they're together, things are either strained or explosive. Rumours suggested that the pair broke up and got back together, but more recent ones suggest that now that he seems awol again that she has decided if he comes back again, she won't rekindle their relationship.
- Marrow is a devout follower of Magneto and is one of his Acolytes.
Enemies:
- The New York Police Department
- Several gangs in NYC
- The MCU (by default)
- The X-Men:
- Rahne - AKA "The Werewolf". She kept Marrow busy running around in the airfield while Rogue and Zachary tried to get Jacob Peterson on a plane.
- Sally - AKA "The Sliding Wonder". Marrow was only partially aware of her involvement in distracting both Aero and Wanda on the same mission.
- John - Known only as "the guy who did stuff with fire", John was unseen to Marrow but she heard about him later. She's particularly unimpressed with him for burning Zachary on the same mission.
- Brianna - Known as "the tart", because Marrow doesn't actually know what she does or what her purpose was in the X-Men's failed attempt at retrieving Jacob Peterson. So, yes, she was out of nicknames.
- Felix? - They've only met once but both managed to get up in each others' faces. While she doesn't really consider Felix a true enemy or even a true threat, she wouldn't exactly be happy to see him again.
Other:
- Caden - One of Marrow's many street contacts. To say they're friends is actually a bit of an exaggeration. In a pinch, one or the other might sell each other out if the price was right or if their asses were on the line. But for now, they have a pretty solid working relationship of 'You scratch my back, I scratch yours'.
- Durante - Due to a conflict during a meeting where Marrow felt he was being disrespectful to her, her opinion of him is not very high. Now that he's also admitted that he was the one who likely lead a rival gang back to the headquarters, she's pretty livid with him and has temporarily taken him off of the active combat roster for the time being.
- Riley - A more recent acquaintance, Marrow has so far been impressed with this private eye. She has offered to help him with a current problem with another one of his own contacts, though it has not been discussed as to whether or not this will be in exchange for the job she has him doing (not likely). He seems to have accepted her, bones and all, with little more than a widening of the eyes -- which impressed her from the get go.
- Tyson - The two met up in a dark alley one night and she may have scared the hell out of poor Tyson.
Wanted
At this point in time, 'underground' or street contacts for her and/or more Brotherhood cohorts.
