Norton

Norton Fisch

Norton is run by DaFlipp and is an Independent. He also plays Ralph Peakes and Deacon Plain.

Biography

  • Full Name: Norton Fisch
  • Age: 33
  • Codename: Siege
  • Family: Parents who live upstate. He occaisonally sends them flowers but rarely visits.

The world is glass to Norton Fisch.

If he hadn't been a mutant, Norton may have led a very normal life. His family, wedged firmly in the working middle class through a construction worker father and a part-time chef mother, had Norton as their only child. And although life wasn't perfect, they kept up with their debts and Mr. and Mrs. Fisch loved their son and tried their best to smooth his way. As it turned out, his way would be in definite need of smoothing.

Growing up, Norton was always a big boy, never fat but always tall and broad-shouldered. As a result, no one paid undue attention when he started breaking all of his toys. His parents figured it was just a phase, that Norton simply didn't understand his own strength. And to an extent, they were right.

The problem was, Norton's strength wouldn't stay the same for long. The more he grew, the easier it became to break things. His parents and schoolteachers stopped laughing and started scolding as he started to wreak havoc on furniture and playthings, usually entirely by accident. No matter what he did, he always seemed to manage to wreak destruction on everything around him.

Norton didn't understand how his schoolyard chums could do it. They would charge onto the field during recess and wrestle, and play, and run, and jump. The moment Norton started to get involved, the moment he tagged a schoolmate or pushed a member of the other team aside, the other child would burst into tears and be sent to the nurse's office while Norton received a vicious scolding for rough play.

Finally, after his parents grounded him for a month for breaking the TV set when he was thirteen years old ("I was just trying to change the channel!"), he decided that no matter what happened, he would stop letting things break around him. He started to move through life slowly, gauging everything he did with the utmost care. He managed to stop wreaking havoc wherever he went, but no one could tell just how much strain this level of concentration put on poor Norton.

Once a mildly troublesome but bright-natured boy, Norton changed considerably as years and years of treating his surroundings like fragile glass took their toll. He started to grow surly and unpleasant, snapping at his friends and making biting comments about anyone he disagreed with. This cost him more than a few friends, as well as severely crippled any chances of finding a girlfriend, despite his growing into a magnificently-muscled young man with seemingly no effort at all...

As more and more reports of mutantkind trickled into the news, Norton pieced together the cause of his superhuman strength fairly quickly. What caught his eye most, however, were the tales of mutant criminals using their powers frivolously and endangering the lives of others. Bitterness crept in - why should these mutants get away with capital crimes while he, Norton, could barely pick up a dinner plate without it cracking in two?

Some would have been driven to a life of crime by this revelation. Norton went in the opposite direction. He started to pour himself into a new profession - law enforcement. He entered the academy at 22, studying and training diligently. He advanced slowly at first, still hindered by the amount of care and consideration every move required of him as a result of his barely-containable strength. But years of controlling himself had given Norton the necessary willpower to stick through what -anyone- would consider a difficult, trying process.

Finally, he became a fully-fledged member of the NYPD. His mutation was only known to a handful of superior officers that Norton knew personally, but he registered as a mutant as soon as the Mutant Registration Act passed. He also repeatedly sent in applications for the MCU, although his mutant status got him deferred as a conflict of interest. Instead, he interviewed for the newly-formed mutant law enforcement agency of X-Factor. He's pretty pissed about the agency's subsequent cancellation.

Powers

Norton has extreme physical strength. He can lift up to two tons with only a little effort, and up to three tons if he really strains himself. He can break or rip apart most materials, and can at least bend or put a dent in anything else except for adamantium. Some kind of impact absorption comes into play with his strength - theoretically the amount of force he generates should shatter his body, but it doesn't.

He also cannot "turn off" his strength, which means only by being extremely careful with his every movement can Norton avoid wreaking havoc unintentionally.

Storyline

Norton was one of the first applicants for the new X-Factor team. It fell through. This is probably a good thing. He also fought the two-headed monster in Chinatown - actually managed to injure the creature somewhat, although it managed to injure him in the process.

Through sheer dumb luck, Norton was in the right place at the right time to help rescue Cassandra? from the Seeker of the Light. Having witnessed the full scope of this dangerous criminal's power, he is committed to bringing him to justice - rough justice, if necessary - and is trying to track him down through every avenue available to him. He is in charge of a police detail keeping "The Light" safe from further attacks, and is also in communication with [Felix] in hopes that maybe his band of mutant misfits can spot something New York's Finest happened to miss.

Friends and Enemies

Friends and Acquaintances

  • Caitlin: Thus far, Norton is vaguely aware that she's a mutant and probably working with Felix and his gang, but otherwise knows little about the mute mutie.
  • Cassandra?: Norton saved her from the Seeker of the Light and his brainwashed companions, and immediately set up a police detail to keep her safe. This has put her in prolonged contact with Officer Fisch. Needless to say, he's worn out his welcome.
  • Emma: Emma was one of few who stuck up for Norton at the masquerade ball. Norton returned the favor by blowing up at her later on. He's like that.
  • Felix?: When the feline mutant mouthed off to Norton for giving him a dirty look, he hadn't counted on him trawling through mutant criminal databases to find someone who matches his description. Now Norton knows a few things about Felix, and uses that knowledge as leverage in their uneasy relationship.
  • Jean?: Norton doesn't like the idea of someone who can speak in his head without his giving express permission. He also doesn't like the idea of someone who speaks back to him. As such, so far, he doesn't like Jean.
  • Jono: Met him during the fight to save Cassandra from the mind-controller. Despite Penny's assurances, Norton doesn't trust him to keep his clearly volatile superpower under control.
  • Pat: Although they had a rough beginning - Pat was caught in the crossfire between Norton and a mutant drug dealer, and Norton didn't appear to mind too much about Pat's welfare in the process - Pat's decision to go to Norton about some problems around town have made him curious about her motives. He doesn't trust her, but he's not going to turn down a potential street contact.
  • Penny: Norton rescued her from an unbalanced mutant who took issue with Penny's pamphlet-pushing. The burly cop actually agrees with a lot of Penny's stances, though he finds her relentless cheer a bit wearing. As such, he gets his kicks driving her up a wall with his own abrasive personality.
  • Wade: In their first encounter, Norton shot him. Since then they've gotten along surprisingly well. Wade's affinity to vigilanteism has actually given Norton some food for thought, and he respects Wade's military past... if not his eccentricities, which annoy Norton greatly.

Enemies:

  • Mutie Criminals: Norton wants nothing more out of life than to bring mutant criminals to justice. He takes their "carefree" refusal to obey the law as a personal insult, using their powers carelessly instead of having to go through the hellish self-disciplining process Norton had to undergo. As such, Norton is never more dedicated than when pursuing mutant criminals... and never more brutal than when engaging them.
  • Norton has run afoul several criminals on the grid that have been NPCed as one-shots; the player gives you free reign to re-use them, as long as you do not violate any general grid rules in the process (i.e. don't let one of them blow up Times Square). Note that just because they've been arrested doesn't mean they've been found guilty. These criminals include...
    • Mulder: A drug dealer who could vanish into shadows. Norton confronted him as he was trying to sell Pat some, er, relaxation medicine, using a flashlight to keep the dealer from slipping away. Last seen being arrested, possibly to be sentenced to time in Riker's.
    • Martin Hooverman: A tall, imposing man who could apparently manipulate matter in some way - he attacked Penny with one of her own flyers, as well as the strands of his trench coat, when her SUFMA stumping rubbed him the wrong way. Last mentioned in a scene, confirmed to be in Riker's.
    • Alley: A diminutive, hotheaded, tattoed, bald mutant who could cause small, localized concussive explosions by snapping his fingers. Taken out by Wade and Norton in a back alley, subsequently had his fingers mangled by Norton to prevent further abuse of his powers. Last seen under arrest.
    • Scaleface: A slow-witted, thuggish mutant with scales covering various parts of his body, including half of his face. Although somewhat conscientious - especially since hearing someone lecture about God's plans for Mutantkind - he is a follower at heart, and does whatever Alley tells him to. It earned him a back alley beating from Wade and Norton. Last seen being arrested.
  • That Guy Looking For the Light: Okay, so Norton doesn't know his name yet, but he's still fairly commited to taking him down after bearing witness to (and participating in) two of the riots he caused.

Norton smiling, a rare sight

Wanted

Norton is designed to be an antagonistic character. He's coarse, unpleasant, and more than likely to assume most of the PCs on the grid are up to no good. I'd love more chances to have Norton's ego clash with other PCs. It'd also be interesting to see if anyone ends up befriending him, though with his personality, that's a bit hard to see coming.
