Penny is run by rogue and is an independent human.
Biography
- Full Name: Penelope May Schellden
- Age: 20
- Birthday: May 15, 1990
- Family: Penny's parents are divorced. Her father is a plastic surgeon with a private practice back home, while mom works part-time as an office assistant. Her older brother Harry is a trauma surgeon and lives in the city.
Penelope was born into a life of upper-middle class indulgence. Her parents divorced when she was young, and her father made up for not being around much by buying her pretty much whatever she wanted. Her inflated sense of self manifested in a devout interest in varying issues and causes from the time she was quite young.
Upon arriving at NYU, she joined in with the Students United for Mutant Accountability, or SUFMA (SOOF-mah) and during her time with them has risen in the ranks to become their leader at the start of this her junior year.
Powers
Other than the powers to annoy and piss people off, none.
Event Involvement
- The Angry And The Desperate - During the riot incited by Sauron, Penny got a little banged up from being in the midst of it all, but Lex helped her out and got bossed at about first aid for his efforts when the two tried to help the councilman who had been injured by the reptilian mutant.
- A Gaudy Masquerade - Penny could hardly resist the excuse to get dressed up and party, but she got more than she bargained for at this masquerade when one of the guests suddenly lost it and started accosting people.
- March of the Mindless - Just coming home from a routine shopping trip, Penny finds herself in the middle of yet another riotous situation. This one with rather drastic consequences.
Storyline
Coming home from a late night at school, Penny ran into Jono busking in the park and the two got to talking. It was actually going fairly well until the mutant issue came up at which point things got a little heated. But that's water under the bridge as far as Penny's concerned.
Penny ran into Jono again at a neighbourhood pub and the two actually managed to get along, so long as she managed to avoid the topic of the mutant menace. So that's progress. Her run-in with Felix at the Botanical Gardens was not so successful though, and the two wound up not very fond with each other.
A routine trip to the mall ended up netting Penny a possible (in her mind, at least) convert and a good debating partner. Both took fliers, which is more than Penelope can say for most people who actually listen to her talk for more than five minutes.
In another encounter with Jono, she accidentally got a little too close for Jono's comfort and got freaked at, which managed to surprise even her. For now, she's bought his excuse about being a burn victim and therefore not liking people to touch him (though she wasn't touching him, hmph).
Things just got worse for the poor activist from there. Hearing about a pro-MRA rally in Central Park, Penelope decided to go and check it out and take the opportunity to spread more of SUFMA's propaganda. All was going well and Pen got herself a spot right in the middle of the action ... which she quickly came to regret as Sauron's appearance caused a riot. Taking an elbow to the face and almost losing her purse, she was saved from further damage by Lex helping her out of the crowd. However, when Sauron dropped the councilman he'd attempted to fly off with, Penny felt compelled to use her first aid skills to help the man, giving Lex some grief for his own efforts.
Still reeling a bit from the riot in the park, the next day Penny went to the zoo to hand out more fliers, this time even adding a shrine for the 15 killed during the riots. She had the misfortune of running into Pietro and things quickly esclated between the two. Although physically the worst that happened was a slapped hand, already feeling vulnerable from the riots the day previous, being all but threatened by an irate mutant has shaken up Penny a little more than she'd like to admit, though it's just made her more determined than ever to continue her good work.
Taking some comfort in her friendship with Jono, the two continued to grow closer until Jono inevitably revealed his mutant identity to her. Penny stuck her foot in it by freaking out at first, but calmed down enough a day later to seek him out to discuss it. They got past the difficulty, though Penny remained secretly still a little concerned about his particular mutation.

But that didn't get in the way of them continuing to be friends and with a little more time, the friendship began to blossom into something more. While out dancing for a night of fun, the two were forced to admit to a mutual attraction and after a brief bout of 'playing it by ear', they officially started dating but agreed to keep it a secret just in case. Of course, the dating went so well that Penny, who usually throws herself into her schoolwork, slacked off a little during finals. Upon getting her grades back and finding them lower than usual, she first freaked out, and then resolved to really throw herself into her work with SUFMA as though to make up for slacking off with school. Jono was not too thrilled with this idea.
But it did lead to her finding her first recruit in Jameson. He's been a fast learner and Penny still finds herself pleasantly surprised to have someone to talk to who actually agrees with her. Her social circle continued to grow as her brother Harry returned from a trip overseas.
Heading to a masquerade held at her school, Pen found herself involved in another strange situation. When a few of the guests got rather badly hurt, she pulled out the first aid skills and did her best to help. Of course, she also felt the need to inform the cop who was doing security detail just what a lousy job she felt he was doing.
Imagine her surprise when he saved her butt from an angry mutant a few days later. From that point onwards, Penny became determined to befriend Norton and help him to stop being such an angry and sarcastic bastard. So far, she hasn't had a whole lot of luck, but she's nothing if not tenacious.
She ran into Norton again in another riot just outside (and inside) her apartment. Converging mostly by chance, she, Jono and Norton managed to save Cassandra? from people who were trying to spirit her away for some nefarious purpose. A little caught up in the situation, she and Jono let slip their involvement, and Norton wasn't too impressed about this, especially after Jono had made a show of his powers.
Norton did agree to keep his mouth shut about it (and ridiculed the idea that he might even want to gossip about such things), and thereby finds himself in the unlikely position of being Penny's sole confidant in relationship matters, whether he would wish to or not.
Friends and Enemies
- Enlightened
- Jameson? - He ran into her doing her usual pitch, but instead of arguing with her or ignoring her, he actually agreed! Penny is set to get him all set up as a bona fide SUFMA member as soon as she can.
- In Need of Enlightenment
- Jono - After an accidental run-in that didn't exactly go smoothly, Penny proved herself incredibly hard for Jono to shake, and the two eventually evolved into friendship. Recently, they've admitted to an undeniable attraction on both their behalves and are now dating secretly in order to avoid any trouble from either faction.
- Devon? - Though he seems to be soundly on the other side of the argument, Penny has to give him props for not only hearing her out, but arguing her points rationally. Plus he took a flier, so there's hope yet!
- Wanda - The girl didn't immediately freak (no pun intended) when she found out Penny's stance, and she actually took a flier, so Pen will put her in the win column.
- Lex - He helped her out of the crowds at the riot, so he must be okay, but he's clearly got some very misguided views about mutants.
- Harry - Penny's brother, a registered mutant who's anti-MRA. They're extremely close, but that doesn't mean they agree on what should be done about the mutant situation.
- Norton - He's rude, he's surly, he can be downright mean at times, but Penny's sure he's just misunderstood, and has decided to try to befriend him despite all evidence to the contrary that this might be what he wants.
- Cassandra? - After helping to save Cassandra during the raid on the apartments, Penny has befriended her neighbour and is more adamant than ever to get to the root of what's causing all this madness.
- Hopeless
- Felix? - Even though Felix is one of them, he and Penny seemed almost to be doing okay until she brought up her controversial Cure solution to the mutant problem at which point things promptly unravelled.
- Pietro - Pietro all but threatened Penny if she kept up with her crusade, was rude, and even, gasp, slapped her hand. Penny considers him one of those mutants who is ruining it for the rest of them.
- Plain - He and Penny got into quite a debate over all manner of things, including who had the right to distribute their fliers in Washington Square Park. Penny thinks she won that battle while Plain apparently has given up all hope. Whatever. She totally won.

Wanted
I'd love to get a few more members in SUFMA to really help keep things lively on the grid. It's a challenge having such an unpopular opinion, but it can be a great deal of fun to throw a spanner in the works too! And don't think SUFMA alts are just limited to humans either (though it'd be awesome to have a few more of those around too). Registered mutants, ones in the closet, saboteurs, even those who don't realize they are mutants, there are many concepts that can fit into SUFMA.
I'd also love getting Penny into more differences of opinion, particularly those that have the threat of turning ugly. Because I'm mean to her like that.
