Rahne

Running around the woods

Rahne is run by rogue. She is a student at Xavier's School and is an X-Man.

Biography

  • Full Name: Rahne Sinclair
  • Age: 15
  • Birthday: March 22, 1995
  • Codename: Wolfsbane
  • Family: Ward of Moira MacTaggert, previous ward of Reverend Craig

Rahne was born in Scotland. She was raised as a ward of the church in a small religious town by Reverend Craig, who was "no' a verra nice man." When her powers manifested, she was forced to leave her home.

Fortunately, she was taken in by Lady MacTaggert who adopted the child to raise as her own. Rahne loved the time spent on Muir Island under MacTaggert's care, but Moira began to worry about Rahne not having enough of a childhood on an isolated island with no one her own age. And so she has sent Rahne to Xavier's School to finish her education and learn more about her powers.

Powers

Rahne is a lycanthrope metamorph, which means she can change her shape into that of a wolf. Unlike mythical lycanthropy, Rahne's transitions are not dependent upon the phase of the moon, but can be done at will. When in her wolf form, she benefits from additional powers, such as heightened senses, speed, and strength.

She can also transition only part-way into her wolf form, which grants her part of her wolf powers, while still maintaining a human-like stature and her ability to speak.

Storyline

Rahne showed up at the school just a few days before Christmas. She had come over to America with Moira, who was planning on spending the holiday season with the girl in New York City, before dropping her off at the school in the new year. However, an emergency called the doctor back to her laboratory early and circumvented their holiday plans.

A shy, awkward thirteen year old, Rahne managed to take the train from Grand Central and then a cab to the doors of the school, where she was greeted by Brianna and promptly introduced to life at the school. She settled in quickly, coming to love living at Xavier's, though she remains absently homesick for her own country and guardian.

While at the school, Rahne began to feel like she should be doing more good, not just reading voraciously the contents of the library. So she volunteered at the Youth Club hosted at the recreation center. She also began taking ninjitsu classes at the rec center, and though she has been lax in both commitments lately, she is considering starting up again during the new school year.

It was while in the city to look into volunteer opportunities that Rahne first ran into John. The two quickly befriended each other, and after some time, Rahne convinced him to take a meeting with Xavier; a meeting that went very well indeed and saw John becoming the school's new librarian.

Not long after, she was given the chance to do even more good, when Jean invited her to be a part of a new project of Xavier's, called the X-Men. By far the youngest member on the team, she set herself to working and training hard to keep up with the adults.

As she set to work with the X-Men investigating the jailbreak, she also found herself busy investigating the sea creature after inadvertently being present when it came ashore. Returning later to the beach with John, she was attacked by a shark and sustained serious injuries.

Since then, she's spent more of her time worrying about John than worrying him, though, managing to keep herself in one piece. Still keeping busy with her X-Men duties, she also accompanied some of her classmates and teachers to the site of a burned out old warehouse, where they were surprised at what they found.

To help with the X-Men investigation, she went to visit Jacob Peterson's parents to find out clues. After meeting with the Petersons, she's been left feeling a little conflicted, realizing that, although bringing Jacob back into custody is clearly the right course of action, it will bring consequences upon these very nice people.

Since the school year started back up again, she's been mostly focussed on her classes and making new friends. Oh, and worrying about John.

She took an avid role in the field days at her school, and was quite pleased when her squad took first place.

In the X-Men battle against the Brotherhood over Jacob, she did surprisingly well in holding her own against Marrow, managing to get away with only a few minor scrapes and bruises. However, when the X-Men ultimately lost the battle, she took it as hard as any, but opted to take on the role of team cheerleader and cheer up the rest of her teammates. She's ordered Brianna to follow the doctor's orders and is fawning over the music teacher a little, perhaps trying to assuage her own guilt for 'letting' Bri get hurt. Whatever she's feeling, she's playing it close to the chest.

As Brianna at least regained some of her mobility, Rahne was able to focus on other things, both good and bad. On the plus side, she was asked by Topaz to help with a good works project, and was also given a job as a library assistant.

However, as this was happening, Rahne was also being slowly faced with the fact that maybe she doesn't fit in with the older students quite as well as she'd thought. Hearing about a party with people she considered friends to which she wasn't even invited hasn't helped that impression, and though she's thankful she didn't get in trouble with the others involved, she was still more hurt by it than she's willing to admit. She's started making more of a sincere effort to fit in, though much of the normal American teen experience remains alien to her.

While finishing up her exams at the school, she also decided to go back to taking Ninjitsu for the summer months, to help her self-confidence and to give her some tools she might need as an X-Man. She still doesn't like fighting, but she's beginning to recognize the wisdom of having some actual self-defense skills.

Once exams were done, she picked up a small (very small) part-time job at a used bookstore in the city. Between it and Ninjitsu, she's around a lot less than she usually is. Still, she's found time to be asking a lot of students rather surprising questions on the nature of dating, boys, and just generally fitting in better. It seems she's getting a little tired of being treated like a child and is trying to figure out how to fix this problem.

As the new school year got underway, rumours began to circulate that Rahne had a crush or a date or some sort of something with a boy. As the supposed date failed to surface, Rahne tried to play the whole thing off as not a big deal, but not being a very good liar, it was still pretty easy to tell that she was. But things have a funny way of working out, for it was during one of these conversations with her close friend Ralph, that he revealed that he might like to take her out himself. So far they've been on a few dates and have been ridiculously cute and happy.

Meanwhile, a routine trip to one of the city's libraries after work one day, led to being in the middle of a crazy cat invasion. Rahne hasn't had much time to follow up on this yet however, busy as she is with school, training, her squad monitor duties, and working both in the library and a few hours a week in a used bookstore in Manhattan.

Friends and Enemies

  • Ralph - Who ever would have known that fateful day when Rahne first met Ralph by accidentally startling him and causing him to spill all his books that the two amateur librarians would eventually end up dating. Then again, maybe it's not such a surprise that the pair of shy bookworms hit it off.
  • Adam - A fellow shape-shifter, Adam is one of the students who is almost like an older brother to Rahne.
  • Barbara - Completely unaware (blissfully!) to Barbara's crush on her, Rahne considers the other girl a dear friend, and if she's a bit peculiar and somewhat socially awkward, well, so be it.
  • Bobby? - A new student to the school, Rahne first ran into him at the field days but they didn't have much chance to talk until later, when they commiserated over a late-night study session.
  • Brianna - Brianna is the one teacher that Rahne will actually call by her first name, mostly because that was how she first knew her, meeting Bri before she was officially signed on to teach music. Also, Brianna's threatening to kick ass also might have had some basis in that decision. A fellow X-Man and mentor, Brianna is one of the few people who know much about Rahne's past pre-Moira..
  • Jean? - Rahne has the utmost respect for Ms. Grey, both as teacher and leader of the X-Men. Although the two don't talk all that much, Rahne does appreciate the almost kindred spirit she's found in someone else in the school who's fairly quiet and rational-minded.
  • Nikki - A squad-mate and friend, Nikki got the honour of giving Rahne what might well have been her first talk about boys. Since then, Rahne hasn't had as much time to hang out with Nikki as she might like, but still seeks her out when the Boy Questions come up.
  • Wesley - Though Rahne hasn't known Wesley as long as some of the others, the two have come to be quick friends. Despite some slight weirdness during a sparring match, Rahne views him like a big brother, though she's sometimes confused by what seem like mixed signals at times.
  • Xavier - A hero and a mentor, Rahne practically worships the Professor. She would walk into the line of fire for him.
  • Marrow - Since the bone demon seemed to take a pretty avid interest in trying to injure her, Rahne is perhaps a little less than fond of the bony one now.

She dislikes sharks, shadow monsters, and mysterious apocalyptic messages.
