Powers
Rogue has the ability to steal other mutants' powers with simple skin-to-skin contact. She also steals memories, abilities, knowledge, talents, and personality from anyone she comes into contact with. In essence, she absorbs a part of the person's life force, which grants her access to that person's innate and learned skills for a period sixty times longer than the duration of contact.
Though all of these skills and abilities leave her at this time, she is forever left with a small part of that person in the back of her mind. Over time, this can cause her to start feeling a little crazy, like she is never truly alone within her own mind.
Because of these factured personalities in her head, she is slightly resistant to telepathy. Telepaths trying to get a fix on her have to fight with all the different voices in her head. This grows more difficult with each additional person she touches.
Of course, the biggest curse is that she is unable to ever turn these powers off. This leaves her without the ability to ever come into skin-to-skin contact with another person without it triggering her powers. As such, she's become very conscious about her personal space and is seldom seen without her gloves on.
Storyline
Arriving on the grid, Rogue ran into Pietro while out Christmas shopping. The outwardly-spoken punk surprised her by idly asking her out on a date, something Rogue was not especially used to given her peculiar powers. Though she demured, the seeds were sown for the subsequent conflict between the pair.
While attending the New Years Eve show at Radio City Music Hall, Rogue narrowly escaped being attacked by crazed Rockettes. She used her powers to put one down for the count, before escaping out an emergency exit with Pietro, Scheherezade, and Logan. Annoyed at Pietro and Scheherezade's cuddly behaviour, she took off.
Since joining the Brotherhood, Rogue has been made field leader, which means she is in charge of the team when out on a mission. The sudden promotion came as something of a shock, and she has been worried about failing at this task ever since. Working herself too hard to prove she can handle the responsibility, she has taken a few stupid risks and is slowly learning the consequences of trying to do too much.
During this time, she spent many months butting heads with Pietro, who seemed to resent her authority. Jealous of his relationship at the time, but not willing to admit it to herself, she was guilty of fanning these flames. This clash ultimately culminated in the two coming to blows in a hallway of the HQ.
Not long after that, she led the Brotherhood in the jailbreak of Jacob Peterson, which did not go entirely according to plan. Though the consequences of that were very nearly dire, they were responsible for forging a much closer friendship with Marrow, and forced Rogue and Pietro to finally acknowledge that they had feelings for one another: they have since become romantically involved.
Rogue began working to help keep Jacob safe from those who would take him back to jail and started making plans to move him out of the state. After a long period of trying to deny that she was worried about Pietro's extended disappearance, his return from his brief sojourn left her a little bit out of sorts. It looked as though the two might actually be making a sincere effort of being honest and forthcoming, until another fight set in and Rogue drove her fellow BH members crazy by blasting angry chick rock and country in the HQ.
When the Brotherhood were trying to fly Jacob out of the state, the X-Men showed up to make things difficult. Having learned from her previous experience at the police station, Rogue hung back considerably, initially just serving as a human shield for Jacob. When Pyro kept threatening to blow up the plane and tried to burn both Rogue and Zach, Rogue was left no choice but to steal his powers out from under him. The plane took off and the Brotherhood made a clean getaway.
Rogue and Pietro made amends again, and were making a real go of it until things hit a slight snag. Because of the way their powers interacted, Rogue discovered that she could actually touch Nikolai and took him up on his offer of a kiss. When guilt overcame her, she confessed to Pietro who took awhile trying to come to terms with this. He's since given his forgiveness and the two are back to working on things and have actually been making a lot of progress. As far as Rogue knows, the two are more or less okay now.
Of course, she has more important things to worry about at the moment. After a late night errand in a bad part of town, Rogue got attacked coming home. But not by the usual sort of predator that roams those areas. No, she got bitten and scratched by rats who seemed to be fleeing something in the sewers. She's since fallen quite sick and isn't showing any signs of getting better.
The illness eventually faded away and things at the HQ calmed down. Without any pressing missions, Rogue actually focussed on her relationship for awhile and she and Pietro managed, in fits and starts, to grow a little closer together.
One day, during a fit rather than a start, Rogue went storming off down into the foyer, with Pietro close behind, to find that they had an unexpected guest. Differences were put aside as some of the Brotherhood questioned this errant punk who had broken into their home and headquarters carrying a gun.
This led to a showdown with the kid's leader, which didn't go exactly according to plan. Guns were the order of the day and every present member of the BH wound up getting shot with varying severity. Rogue was spared the agony of it by virtue of her bulletproof coat, but this really just made it harder for her to have the blood of her comrades on her hands. While they we're holed up in the infirmary, she's been driving herself crazy with guilt. But when Magneto called her onto the carpet for trying to do this all under the radar, he also gave her some good advice about cleaning up the mess rather than wallowing in the guilt of screwing up. And so that's just what she's trying to do.
Friends and Enemies
- Pietro - Since the day they first met, these two have been unable to get along for more than five minutes at a stretch. Naturally, they decided to finally start dating. As Pietro returned from being MIA, Rogue was forced to come to terms with the fact that she did miss him and what that might mean. An illicit kiss from Nikolai complicated matters but actually forced them to start working on some of their issues. Though the road remains bumpy, they've been doing okay since, at least as far as Rogue knows.
- Marrow - As close to a best friend and confidante that Rogue's likely to get. Marrow has forced common sense on Rogue on more than one occasion, and Rogue's recently had the opportunity to inflict the same in return.
- Nikolai - Rogue first ran into him when he was a stranger in a big city. At a bit of a breaking point, she confided in him a few details assuming he'd disappear into the night, never to be seen again. Imagine her delight to find he's joined the Brotherhood. Since the stolen kiss, Rogue's been avoiding him for the time being.
- Wanda - Although the two aren't especially close, Rogue respects Wanda for her role in the jailbreak as well as her dedication to the team. She recently learned more about Wanda and Pietro's background when she enlisted Wanda's help in tracking down her no-good paramour.
- Marcel - Another teammate that Rogue's just getting to know. He gets points for being eager.
- Zachary - Rogue was glad to finally meet up with the resident zombie after hearing about him through third parties. He also gets points for being eager to help the cause. Teaming up with him to face off against the X-Men has also impressed Rogue with his powers.
- Plain - These two didn't get off to the bestest start when Rogue got a little up in his face about his talking about religion. However, she's still impressed by his work in the field, and by the fact that he's not pushed anything on her, religion-wise.
- Frankie - They ran into each other at the 7/11 and recognized one another from the incident with the rats. It seems they're both sick and they've agreed to each look into it and report back.
- Emma - Rogue really doesn't know much about the newest Brotherhood member, but that isn't stopping her from distrusting her out of hand for being rich and privileged. She also worries that Emma's troubles with her family may come back upon the team.
- Miriam? - Fine, so she's jealous. Rogue has been rather hostile to the poor woman since finding out she's a mysterious contact of Pietro's whom he'd just utterly failed to mention until he needed Rogue to do him a favour. The fact that nothing untoward actually seems to be going on has only really made her that much bitchier about it, since now she feels rather stupid but won't admit it.
- MCU - Since running into these bastard on a mission, they've moved up to the top of Rogue's list.
