Powers
Wesley has the ability to manipulate his own metabolism. By increasing his metabolism, he can grant himself increased speed, strength, and healing along with other side effects such as increased heart rate, increased body temperature and burning fat a rate of up to one pound per minute. Decreasing his metabolism decreases speed, strength, and healing, but grants him a certain resistance to toxins and allows him to go without food for longer periods of time, among other side effects.
Storyline
Wesley was never a particularly popular child. From the time he entered pre-school, his peers found his short, pudgy frame a good target for teasing. As he grew older, and developed his rather geeky sensibilities, this teasing developed into bullying, both psychological and physical.
Then, middle school. Cornered by a group of taller, stronger boys one day, his powers kicked in for the very first time, knocking their leader off his feet in a single swing. Over time, with the assistance of his sister, he learned to get some degree of control over it, his sudden bursts of strength when threatened ending the worst of the bullying. Then, in his 13th year, his growth spurt hit, rendering him one of the tallest (and, thanks to being 'stronger than he looks' the strongest) children in his school. Upon entering high school, he did what any strong, fast child in desperate need of acceptance would do, he tried out for the football team. He was accepted, and quickly became the star player. His practice with dragging out the duration of his powers, while at the same time being able to meet any physical challenge that came his way, all while feigning athletic but normal human gave him a great deal of control over the upper spectrum of his powers.
Then, he used his powers to defend the closest thing he had to a friend back when he was a geek, and it all came crumbling down. Kicked off the team for suspicions of cheating with his powers, he went from Mr. Popular to leper in the course of a week. Fortunately for the boy, a series of events, beginning with an encounter with Betsy in a New York arcade and culminating in a home visit from Sally lead to him attending Xavier's. Fresh start, new friends, ones who wouldn't abandon him for being a mutant. This is also where, in a moment of mutual stupidity, an encounter with Felix? and Adam in their animal forms brought his healing factor to his attention.
Friends and Enemies
Adam: Despite a good start, a moment of mutual stupidity shortly after their first encounter left these two butting heads until Adam's departure from the school, though calling them enemies might be a bit much. Too similar to get along, too different to find common ground.
Barbara: Wesley's girlfriend. She started off as one of Wesley's many little sister figures, and there's some lingering awkwardness on his part from that, but it's starting to fade. Somehow, he's become the one exception to her germophobia, homosexual tendencies, and several of her other quirks. They share an intense scientific curiosity about the function of mutations, but Wesley is better about balancing it against social norms.
Basset: Wesley gets along with her, about as well as any student does, at least. Years of dealing with a somewhat hard nosed Football coach has left him with a knack for dealing with those teachers that most students would clash with and hate forever.
Betsy: One of Wesley's firsts friends at the school. One of the his few female friends to escape his protective side, in no small part to her proving herself to be highly capable during a certain Haunted House incident.
Faith?: Wesley's ex. Despite a heated start, and a what looked to be a pretty good relationship, Faith getting involved in a band left them less and less time together and, eventually, they split up, though remain on good terms.
Felix?: The member of the feral duo that Wesley successfully managed to make up with. They remained close until Felix's departure from the school, only really butting heads when Felix let his feral side get away from him, the metamorph claiming a lack of understanding on Wesley's part, and Wesley claiming a lack of responsibility and training on the part of Felix.
Jill: Xavier's strangest student is also perhaps the one that took easiest to Wesley's tendency to adopt younger student's as extended family. He's been helping her a lot with her powers, both for her own benefit and to sate his own curiosity. He's impressed by the gains she's made, rather proud of the little blue blob, though he does have some lingering worries over just how much she took to the image inducer she was given to help her blend in outside of the school.
Laura: One of many people to fall victim to Mr. West's Welcome Wagon. For a while, it worked well, the girl opening up to Wesley, revealing parts of her past to him. However, a natural worrier, these few tidbits were enough to get Laura on Wesley's protection list, which has lead to very little but frustration for the girl, leading to her clamming up rather tightly. Wes genuinely cares for her, and does want to be her friend, and keeps making attempts towards that goal, but Laura doesn't make it easy on him, which alternatively makes him try even harder and infuriates him.
Nikki: One of Wes's closer friends in his age group. Their mutual competitive natures lead to a variety of adventures on their part around the school. Their time as Squad Monitors was marked by each swearing to the other that their squad would ultimately come out with the most points, with Wesley's Double Helix doing just that. Part of the reason that Wesley has built up a healthy respect for non-obvious combative powers. A trail run of a game of her own design found him being thrown bodily by one of her sound bursts.
Rahne is something of a little sister figure for Wesley, a certain awkward moment in the gym not withstanding. He doesn't get to spend time with her as often as he'd like, especially now that he's gone off to college, but, like any of his friends, all she needs to do to get his time is to ask for it.
