Xavier App

Want to Be at Xavier's School?

So you want to play a character at Xavier's School, hm? Great! However, before you go ANY further, please pay heed to the following:

1. It is Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters here, not the Xavier Institute (technically). The Institute is a smaller 'school' within the campus for older students, as explained in the next point.
2. Xavier's School is first and foremost a high school. Students will be of high school age (13-17), although older students sometimes opt to stay longer while going to college off-campus. Older individuals may come on as faculty members either as teachers, mentors or general school staff (librarian, cook, etc.) -- if you are interested in someone other than a student, please feel free to app for this and tell us in your Misc section what you'd like. Talking to staff prior to writing up such an application is also a good idea as we may or may not be accepting new teachers/school staff at the time.
The Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters provides mutant teens with a top-notch formal education while also providing them a safe haven from prejudice and a place to safely learn about their powers. All that's required is that you play a teenager (13-17 years of age) who is a mutant, and is able to attend a boarding school in upstate New York (the school does not accept day students). Children of all backgrounds and financial means can find a home at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning provides safe accommodations and support to young adults, many of whom opt to continue their learning either through distance education or by commuting to one of the many schools in the city. Students are given the freedom to live their adult lives while also having access to power-training facilities as well as a fully appointed mansion. Financial aid is available to students who require it. Institute members must be 18 or over, while there is no upper age limit.
New characters may app directly into the School or Institute by explaining in their background how they found out about Xavier's (remember that the school is not currently known about publicly - more likely they will approach you). If you need any help working this into your background, please ask staff on the Guests channel or via email (xmrstaff@debbo.org). Existing unaligned or independent characters can @mail *STAFF about a recruitment scene.
3. ALL students need to familiarize themselves with the Code of Conduct once they arrive at the school. Type +bbread 11/5 once you've been approved to do so.
4. Upon arriving at the school, ALL students would be immediately informed that they are NOT to talk to anyone not affiliated with the school about the school's true nature. Even the location of the school should not be revealed. The school is not known publicly as a mutant school and if that knowledge leaked, it would compromise the safety of everyone within it (and must be OOCly approved by Plot Staff first!).
5. The students do not know of the existence of the X-Men or the X-Jet/Blackbird unless they are in the X-Men. Some students might know about some of the underground levels but this is to be found out through IC means, not assumed. If someone has not taken your character down there on-camera or told your character about it on-camera, they don't know about it.
6. If you are playing a character already at the school, remember that strangers are not permitted at the school for security purposes.
7. Xavier's School and Institute are among the +team list on the grid which you can apply directly into out of character generation. The X-Men must be handled via IC recruitment. If you wish to already have your character in the school, work this into your character's bg, but remember that Xavier generally comes to you, not the other way around. Xavier has ways of tracking people down. Appstaff would be more than happy to discuss methods for your character to be found by Xavier.
