Submission Guidelines
To make sure that all of our pages work properly together and that everything looks nice, we employ certain submissions guidelines. Anyone finding a page not following the submission guidelines is asked to edit the page themselves, if possible; alternatively, you can contact Paradigm with a note.
For more general help on getting started, you'll want to check out our XMRWiki FAQ and the page on basic editing.
Guidelines
- Make sure that links to existing pages are used where possible.
- New categories should be added to the Links section of the SideBar.
- When adding a note that something requires further work or clarification, include it in brackets in superscript, like this: '^(My note.)^'.
- When editing or fixing something noted in superscript, remove the original note.
- When adding a new category, make sure to include a trailing slash or period so that it's created as a directory of its own and not a subset of Main (for example, [[Theme/]] not [[Theme]])
- When adding a link to an outside resource, it's at the editor's discretion whether to add a wiki page for that resource or just link directly (for example, with LiveJournals, you may wish to create a page that explains why you keep your LJ and what you do with it, or you can just link straight to it).
- When updating an existing page, try to follow any formatting conventions already in place on that page.
- Try to use bullets or numbered lists for lists wherever possible. This makes it easier to add new items later.
- Use !!! to create sub-headings on a page in places that make sense.
- General rule of thumb: When including an inline image, float the image to the left or right and make it thumbnail-sized, by putting %lframe thumb% or %rframe thumb% before the URL of the image. You can include a caption by adding a | and then the caption text immediately after the image URL (usually done in small font size).
- Bold text that indicates what people should enter into the wiki or the MU*. You can bold with '''text'''.
- While you are encouraged to create links to character pages for current and existing characters on the game when writing about your own character or theme, please do not include more information about this character than is available in the +finger without the player's explicit consent.
- Links to character pages (both the main Characters page and those pages for the comics, movies, etc.) should be done by the most commonly called name for this character. Sometimes this will mean a judgement call between real name or codename (Logan verus Wolverine, for example). Once one has been chosen, please stick with it. In the instance of characters from the game, it should be done by the @name they have on the game.
- When you make a major update, you should announce it on the Home Page. Edit the page, and under !!!Wiki News, add your news at the top with a bullet point. You may want to remove the news at the bottom of the list if it is old.
- If you decide to move or rename a page, make sure to replace the original page with a (:redirect pageName:) where pageName is the name and location of the new page. This will prevent duplicate pages but keep older links from ending up broken.
Rules
- Content must be of an appropriate nature for an all-ages site. While slight innuendo is acceptable, explicit content is not.
- Get permission from other players before posting revealing information about their characters. Information beyond what is viewable in a +finger should not be posted without consent.
- While we encourage players to provide information about on-going plots, we ask that they limit this to information that is widely available; secret information provided for specific characters should not be shared before speaking with staff. This is not a hard and fast rule, but as part of the fun in our plots is solving the mystery, please use your common sense about posting anything that might 'ruin the ending' for someone.
- If you are going to edit someone else's character or user page, you should make sure to explain in the 'summary' field what you are doing and why.
- Unless otherwise specified all information found on the wiki is of an OOC nature and should not be used to supplement IC knowledge. Any use of OOC information ICly is explicitly against the rules.
