Background

Rogue is the codename of Marie D'Ancato, a young runaway from Mississippi; she befriended Wolverine while in Canada. She is a student at Xavier's School and is dating Bobby Drake.

Her powers first manifested when she kissed her boyfriend, leaving him in a coma for three weeks. When Magneto learned of her powers, he managed to kidnap her; he sent Mystique in disguise as Bobby to Xavier's School to guilt her about having used her powers inadvertently against Wolverine, causing Rogue to run away from the school in fear of punishment. Magneto then transferred his powers to her and forced her to control a malicious machine. She almost died in the attempt and was saved only when Wolverine again transferred his healing powers to her. It was because of the strain with the machine that Rogue grew her trademark white stripe of hair.

Powers

Rogue has the ability to steal another mutant's powers through touch, although she cannot disable this power. Desperate for human touch, and worried that she would lose Bobby, she opted to give up her powers so that she could be close to him.
