Paradigm Shift

Article the First - Spring Has Sprung

Spring is a time of rejuvenation, so it's fitting to see XMR experiencing a re-growth as the weather turns warmer and players throw off the shackles of the school term. I thought I would take this opportunity of our first newsletter in awhile to welcome new and returning players alike while extending a sincere thank you to those of you who stood by us and kept us going during these bleak winter months.

To those of you who are new to the game, I'm glad you could join us. I hope you'll have much luck carving out your own niche here. The best way to make a name for yourself here on XMR is to get out there and RP. Sign up for events and take part in challenges when we offer them, and remember that pick up RP is only as far as a +rp/poke away (see '+help rp' on how to use our RP-finding code).

For those of you returning after a stint away, we're happy to see you back. I've personally let a handful of you out of the freezer over the past few weeks and I've been hearing word that more are planning on returning once their own schedules let up some. It seems the past term was a stressful one for a lot of you, but now we're all back and can unwind together. If you've been gone long enough that you need an IC excuse or some help reintegrating yourself with the grid, please contact staff so that we can work together for a smooth transition.

Remember too that if you're going to be away for more than a few days at a time, it's a good idea to drop us an @mail and post on the Vacations +bboard. This way we can make sure you avoid the freezer next time. If you haven't read them since you first joined, you might want to re-familiarize yourself with our 'news policy idles'. Unfortunately, unless we hear from you directly in accordance with those policies, we have to follow the steps outlined within.

And finally, for that loyal group that stood by us all this while, I thank you for your patience and perseverance. You made events and challenges a success, even with a diminished player-base. And we saw many of you keeping very active, which is always great to see.

I hope as you all settle back in to your respective roles here on XMR that we can once again achieve a strong sense of community here. Our wiki (http://xmr.dune.net/wiki), our forum (http://www.debbo.org/xmr), our LiveJournal (http://community.livejournal.com/xmr/) and our staff email address (xmrstaff@debbo.org) are available to you all at any time. Please make use of them to contact us or work OOCly with one another.

It's important during this time that we all maintain open channels of communication. With new players suddenly coming in spades as well as old ones returning from the woodwork, we all need to work together to make sure that everyone finds their place and that we keep a cohesive IC world. If you're planning something and you aren't sure if you need to get staff's okay, please err on the side of caution. Even if it isn't something that requires permission, giving us a heads up can ensure that things play out in a way that works for everyone.

As for what we can do for you, as our own schedules begin to adjust to a change in seasons and life circumstances, we hope to bring you more events, more challenges, more OOC tools, more grid, more team-building and more excuses to RP. It won't happen all at once, but if there's something in particular you'd like to see, we welcome any and all suggestions and will do our best to accommodate them.

Happy Spring~

The Looking Glass

Let's Get This Party Started

As mentioned on the game, your friendly neighbourhood staff have decided to resuscitate the XMR newsletter to help us keep our players in the loop regarding happenings on the game, challenges, stats, plot, etc., as well as add another forum for you to be heard. How can you be heard? Just write some material for the newsletter! It's that easy.

Like to write articles, poems or songs? Maybe you're more of an artist? Got questions or comments about the game, previous newsletters, etc.? Have any IC RP hooks to offer or announcements? Or maybe you're looking to get someone to play your kid brother or you'd like to see more doctors, janitors or squeegee kids on the grid; well, drop us a line!

Submissions can be sent to alicexmr AT gmail.com (please cc xmrstaff AT debbo.org) or @mailed to *EDITOR on-game.

As with any publication, we may not be able to post all submissions either due to content or repetition of material and may either withhold it for future newsletters or denied, depending on the situation.

(Please edit your own submission for typos, spelling and grammar before submitting. Thanks!)

With all of that said, the news letter will be initially produced every two months (so the next one will be due out in August). Deadlines for submissions will be a week before publication to allow for reviewing and editing, dialogue between editor and contributors, and final mark-up for the web.

And unless we find that you might have another preferred space for it to go, the newsletter will be posted solely to the wiki with links to it posted to the LJ community, mailing list, +bboard, etc.

Watch the wiki space and/or +bboard for periodic requests for specific material! We want to hear from you! And now, let's get this party started!

State of the Plot

A synopsis of recent public plotlines...

~The Angry and the Desperate~

Summary: The city of New York and many pro-MRA and anti-mutant groups have come together to hold the largest MRA rally so far. Tens of thousands of people gathered in Central Park to hear a number of notable speakers, including members of the city council. With the first speech well under way, the rally was interrupted when Sauron arrived on the scene. He attacked councilman Alfred Hayward and sent the crowd into a panic. Other mutants present at the time began using their powers and the press had a field day. The MCU arrived on the scene and gave a spectacular display of their weaponry. In the end, Sauron was captured, mutants were exposed, and many members of the crowd were injured.

Participants: Bobby, Emma, Lex, Mort, Penny, Simon

~Under the Knife~

Summary: Protests and anti-mutant activity has surged throughout the past week as the citizens of New York City took a heavy blow from the mutant Sauron, who has been placed behind bars. Now they have turned their sights on Frost Enterprises after the daughter of Malcom Frost was outed as a mutant present at the Central Park Massacre. Come witness an old fashioned protests as citizens take their anger to the Frost's front door.

Participants: Adam, Jono, Maddie, Emma
