Some mutants project destructive beams of light, force, or heat. Though such beams have relatively narrow applicability, their range and power can provide a decisive advantage in combat. Beyond obvious variations in range and accuracy, projected beams are often limited in point of origin (Cyclops' project only from his eyes, for instance) and by reliance on some external power source. Because of the great amount of energy released in a single beam, it is very rare for a mutant's own metabolism to be able to create outward beams without supplementary power. The canon version of Scott absorbs and stores sunlight, and XMR's OC Brianna absorbs electricity and other energies before discharging them as beams.
