Physical Enhancements

Physical Enhancements

The following explains some of the possible physical enhancements available through mutation.

Ways It Might Work

Agility

Some mutants have enhanced flexibility, speed, and reflexes, making them more naturally nimble and acrobatic than normal humans. In combat, this increases their chances of dodging blows and getting in past their opponents' defenses. By virtue of their quickness, they are often able to bypass obstacles that block others. In everyday life, they move with more assurance and grace than their peers.

Kurt is an example of a character with mutation-enhanced agility, both in canon and on XMR. Some physical mutations or morphing abilities, like those of canon and XMR Rahne, can also enhance a character's agility. And in some cases, characters can have agility beyond the norm simply due to background and training, as in the case of gymnast and La Parkour afficionado Samantha(?), an XMR original character.

Enhanced Senses

Some mutants find that all or some of their senses have been heightened by their mutations. This can simply mean that their senses have become more acute so that they can see, hear, and smell much more accurately and perhaps over further distances. In other cases, the senses can actually change in nature, allowing the mutant to see into other spectrums, hear pitches higher and lower than than that of which the human ear is capable, or differentiate smells and track them over distances.

With the good comes the bad, however. Someone who might smell like a bloodhound might be good at tracking but easily overwhelmed by too many smells. A person with enhanced sight might have really good night vision (like a cat) or be able to spot a mouse at the end of a football field, but might be easily blinded or distracted with too much light or other visual stimuli. Hearing might work in a few ways, from being able to hear outside normal human range (e.g. hearing a dog whistle) to being able to pick out inconsistencies in a recording of a symphony that might have been dubbed and resold as an 'original copy'. Similar drawbacks might occur. The other senses (touch and taste) might work in some weird and wonderful ways, too.

Speed

Increased speed is another power with which some mutants may find themselves gifted. This can be as simple as being able to run or move from one point to another faster than a person should be able to, or it can mean that the character lives his or her entire life in super-speed: in this case, brain processes, actions, and reflexes are all sped up to superhuman levels. An example of someone on the game whose 'thing' is speed would be Pietro.

Strength

Some mutants will develop superhuman strength thanks to their powers. This power is fairly simple and usually just allows the character to exert greater force with their muscles than any human should be able to.

In some cases, the strength requires a period of adjustment as the character is not used to their new abilities; performing tasks with the same amount of exertion as before will result in much greater force being used.

Sometimes greater strength comes with rage.

There are many variations on this ability, obviously, and this may not cover it all.
