Psychometry
This is the ability to pick up snippets of an object's past by touching it.
Ways It Might Work
- Some psychometrists can turn their power on or off, while others must wear gloves and keep fully covered at all times to prevent accidental triggering.
- Some pick up images like photographs in time or snippets of sound or smells surrounding the object.
- Others get fuller readings which involve mini-movies of sorts.
- Some can pinpoint exact times they want to read while others have no control or have to concentrate longer/harder to go further back in time. Still some can only pick up the most recent 'memories' of the object.
There are many variations on this ability, obviously, and this may not cover it all.
Dealing With Consent
As with any power, we ask that an 'out' in case of non-consent is offered. Possible 'outs? ' for this ability could be:
- On/Off - As mentioned above, some psychometrists might be able to turn the ability on or off, allowing for the ability to be 'off' in a non-consent situation. Other ways to maintain that the ability was off might be as simple as stating that it's skin-to-object contact that's needed and their gloves were on. Not everyone is going to consent to their personal belongings being read.
