Sin

SIN

Sin is run by Raff and is a member of the Xavier Institute

Biography

Full Name: Donovan Sinclare

Age: 24

Codename: Hellhound

Family: Lost Contact

Nationality: American

Actor:

Team: Xavier Institute

History:

Sin was born Donovan Sinclare. He never knew his father, and he spent most of his time avoiding his alcoholic mother. When he was in highschool, Donovan was attacked by thugs, which triggered the onset of his mutation. Donovan transformed into a large black beast and scared the muggers away. Back home, his mother was terrified and screamed that he was "Sin Incarnate". From that time forth Donovan referred to himself as "Sin".

Sin took to the tunnels of the cities. He hid in the darkness and honed his abilities. He would occasionally return to the surface to rummage through garbage cans and collect random junk. When Sin was 21, he met a mutant named Cordelia who fled to the tunnels due to a physical mutation of her own. The two became good friends.

Cordelia obtained a large black cloak for Sin, so that he could venture to the surface with her and wander the less populated areas of the city with greater ease. Traveling the darker areas of the city, Sin would occasionally run into shady characters. Once in a while, an article would show up in the back pages of the local paper describing witness accounts of a large dog which saved them by frightening away muggers. Animal control has been asked about the odd appearance the witnesses describe the creature as having. They often remark that the animal may have a disease or injury which causes it to look odd, but that they intend to capture it eventually.

One morning, Cordelia returned with exciting news. She had overheard a child talking about what she interpreted to be a school for mutants. She trailed the child as far as she could, but lost track of him. All that she knows is that if the school exists, it is somewhere in Westchester County. Cordelia became excited and began speaking of possibilities to seek out their own kind and to live on the surface all the time. Cordelia began venturing to the surface more frequently in search of the elusive school, often times without even telling Sin.

Very recently Cordelia herself has disappeared, not coming home after being out all night. Sin has not seen or heard from her in a few weeks, and has begun venturing to the surface alone in search of her. He began searching Westchester and met with a mutant named Kurt. After a couple meetings, Kurt agreed to take Sin to the Xavier institute, where Sin currently resides.

Powers:

Physical Mutation -

Body -Sin’s body is a chimera of sorts, appearing to be comprised of several animal parts. Because he does not resemble any specific animal in particular, most people who see him may describe him as ‘demonic’ in appearance.

Physical Strength and Agility -His body gives him no strength bonus. He is as strong in beast form as he is in human form, which is no stronger than a normal human of his age and activity level. The morphology of his legs and back allows him to move just as easily on two or four legs, but aside from this he is no more agile than a normal human being.

Speed -His claws improve his traction and allow him to run about as fast as a dog while on all fours (about 20mph). Running on all fours is slightly easier for him and he can keep up maximum speed for about 10 minutes. While on two legs he is slightly slower than a normal human, with a maximum speed of about 10 mph. Running on two legs is more awkward for Sin, he can keep up maximum speed for about 5 minutes. It is not fatigue or lack of stamina which causes Sin to slow down, but his inability to properly cool down his body from the physical exertion.

Claws - Sin possesses non-retractable claws on his hands similar to a dog’s claws. If he were to swipe at a person it would scratch them, but the claws are ineffective for slashing or climbing trees.

Teeth - Sin carries a sharp set of teeth and possesses a bite pressure of about 1000 psi. Despite the morphology of his jaw, Sin is capable of human speech. He is also capable of many animalistic sounds such as growls and yelps.

Ears - Sin’s enormous ears allow him to pick up minute sounds, and his ability to swivel his ears allows him to pinpoint sounds more accurately and to calculate where the sound is being emitted from. In complete silence, Sin would be able to hear a pin drop from a distance of 100 feet if his ears were erect and pointed in that direction. He is able to hear the breathing and heartbeat of people around him, and can detect changes which may indicate a person’s degree of anxiety.

Nose - Sin’s sense of smell while in beast form is much better than a human’s, but not quite as strong as an animal‘s. He can distinguish smells as far as species, but not by individual. So he would be able to tell if movement near him is a person or a dog by smell, but he would not be able to tell which person unless they have an extremely distinct odor (a specific perfume or someone like Toad).

Eyes - Sin’s eyes contain tapetum lucidum which allow him to see in areas of very low light. He is able to see with small amounts of light, but cannot see in total darkness. The tapedum lucidum cause his eyes to shine or glow in the darkness much like a cat‘s eyes. As a result of this morphology, Sin is unable to detect red light and cannot distinguish red or orange objects. Also, being out in bright light causes him pain. He cannot go outside on a sunny day without eye protection. His visual acuity is no better than a normal human with perfect vision.

Sound -

Sound Blast - Sin is able to emit a sound wave capable of stunning small animals (under 40 pounds) and temporarily disorienting normal humans for about 20 seconds. The noise is quite terrifying and sounds like a roar mixed with a scream. It is loud enough that it may hurt the ears of individuals too close to him, but only those directly in front of him (up to seven feet away) will become disoriented.

Sin can create one burst of sound every five minutes. Doing so more than three times an hour gives him strong headaches. Doing so more than five times an hour will put a strain on his larynx and he will need to rest this power for several hours.

Disorientation is contingent upon the intended victim’s ability to hear. If the individual is hard of hearing, is wearing earplugs or headphones, or has a mutation which allows them to manipulate sound waves then this power would prove ineffective.

Although Sin is unaware of it, his ears produce a second sound simultaneously with the sound blast which cancels the waves as they reach his own ears. This prevents him from harming himself with his own noises.

Transformation -

Sin does not know that he is capable of this, but he will eventually be able to revert to his human form. He has been in beast form for so long, that the human form will be disorienting to him slightly. While in human form, Sin loses all of his powers, including the sound blast and improved senses. Being in human form is tiring to Sin, and he will only be able to remain human for five hours at a time maximum, needing to rest for about six hours afterward before shifting again. If Sin falls asleep, becomes drunk, or is knocked unconscious while in human form he will revert back to his beast form automatically. Also, certain triggers (such as injury or stress) can trigger his unintentional transformation back into the beast. Transforming to and from his beast form can be very painful, but not so much so that it prevents Sin from reaching human form without reverting.

Feral Mind -

Lurking beneath Sin’s conscious intelligence is the mind and instinct of an animal. If he is tired, drunk, or frightened, his mind stops working as well and he becomes slightly more aggressive. It is possible that if he is dealt a powerful blow his sentient mind may become unconscious and the feral mind will take control until he is able to regain his composure. It may take several minutes for Sin to reawaken, during which time he will have no conscious control of his body. He will act as a wild carnivorous animal, most likely fleeing from whatever attacked him, but possibly fighting back if cornered. While feral, Sin gains no power, speed, or agility bonus. He simply loses his ability to think rationally and reacts on instinct alone. While feral, Sin is unable to use his sound blast.

Personality:

Despite his fierce appearance, Sin tends to act rather virtuously. He does not condone violence or stealing, and believes in protecting the weak and helping the needy. Lurking beneath his consciousness is the mind of an animal. When he becomes tired or frightened, he tends to become slightly less human.

Skills

Literacy - Sin is capable of reading and writing at a college level. He has read many of the classics and has an above average vocabulary.

Random Junk - Sin has a collection of random junk and a large number of books stowed away in the tunnels. The junk is mostly useless items, such as pieces of mirror and a ratty old mattress.

Hunting & Scavenging - Sin has impressive hunting and scavenging abilities. He can hunt in near total darkness and target his prey by sound alone. He could easily survive for long periods in the tunnels of the city or in the wilds.

Stealth - Sin is used to sneaking around in the shadows and is fairly good at going unnoticed. His black fur allows him to blend in with the darkness, and his ability to hear himself has allowed him to practice moving as silently as possible.

Navigation - Sin is very familiar with the tunnels of the city and can get just about anywhere he needs to go without setting foot on the surface.

Cloak - Sin possesses a large black cloak which he wears occasionally when going to the surface.
